I came home from work the other day with a new tunic and put it on with a pair of leggings. Then Hubsey and I had the following conversation:
ME: Do you like my new shirt?
HUBSEY: Where are your pants?
ME: On my body.
HUBSEY: Those are leggings.
ME: Right.
HUBSEY: Right. So... pants?
ME: I'm wearing them. These things that I'm pointing to right now.
HUBSEY: No, those are leggings.
ME: Leggings that are pants.
HUBSEY: No, no. Leggings aren't pants.
ME: Except they are.
We went back and forth like that for a while and neither of us was willing to compromise, so now I'm asking you. Are leggings pants?
Before you answer, let me explain myself. Leggings are INDEED fine as pants if you wear them under a shirt that's long enough to cover your butt. They're also accepable if you're at the gym. (And they're adorable under short dresses, but that's not really pants, is it?) However, leggings are NOT okay if you wear them with a normal t-shirt. We don't need anybody dressing like they go to Sweet Valley High (ALTHOUGH, I've heard that the clothing descriptions in those books have been re-done so Kids These Days will think the Wakefield twins are cool).
So, help me settle this. Are leggings pants?
I can totally hear you and Hubsey in my head having that exact conversation, especially the "except they are" comment! Too funny.
