Anybody else have a favorite architect and/or designer? I love me some Frank Lloyd Wright. He's been my favorite since I was old enough to have a sense of how I wanted my house to look someday.

We're maybe halfway there. The coffee table, entertainment center, dining room table, hutch, and lamps are mission style. The carpet, couch, love seat, and recliner are not. I would show you pictures, but maybe I left my jewelry stuff all over the room again and now it's messy. So just imagine that room above with plaid couches. (I know.)
I've been scouting out some better furniture for a couple of months and sadly, the stuff we want is really expensive. Hideously expensive. $3,700 for a sofa expensive. So I got really cranky about it and started wondering if I could just STEAL one, but then I checked Etsy (like I should have done in the first place) and found this:

Hello, Sailor! Two grand for a sofa is more my speed, especially for a made-to-order, customizable beauty like this. I'm also more willing to cash out on the sofa because the rest of our furniture was so cheap. A couch takes a lot more wear and tear than anything else, so to me it's an investment piece.
What's your furniture style? Do you have an item you're willing to blow the bank on?
Those rigid armrests are going to make it harder for you to fall asleep after dinner everyday... or is that part of the plan?
ReplyDeleteIt's not EVERYday, thank you very much. I've been much more alert with my new schedule.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with spanglerjl on this one. This couch is very stylish, but it doesn't really look that comfortable. Maybe put it in your formal living room and then have a nice squishy couch for in the family room, where all the actual living occurs. That couch in my living room was $2000 (many years ago, so we must adjust for inflation) and now it's the world's biggest dog bed. Oh yeah, and don't forget, children learning to walk have a tendency to lead with their heads and those corners look sharp. Just thinking ahead, baby!!!
ReplyDeletePsh, we're not having kids for like five years, so there will be no head-bonking. By the time we procreate it probably will end up in the formal living room in the house we'll have purchased by then.
ReplyDeleteEven if you're going to wait 5 years, I still say go with a nice dark color. I like the black. Sadly, MY hubby fell in love with Cream Leather sofas and chairs I couldn't reason him out of. Now they're dirty and scribbled on, and every little mark shows.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, dark colors all the way. I spill too often for anything else.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking of a little girl I once knew with an oversized head, not naming any names. Luckily, it turned out to be full of brains, but it was quite big and made her a little bit top-heavy. Genes being what they are....
ReplyDeleteWill your kids not be allowed in the living room? Kids often go where they're not supposed to. I'm just saying, food for thought.
Now that I look at it again, those sides are kinda high. Are you going to want to sit with your arm up like that while watching TV, like you're driving a car? Awkward!
But still beautiful :)
Ya know, I can't decide if the arms are high or the back is low. Maybe a combination of the two.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, it IS beautiful.
it IS a combination of both! and probably not very comfy to curl up in to read a good book. It might be kind of like sitting in a box, not that there's anything wrong with that!
