U.G.L.Y.: Woeful Onesie

It's been a while since I've busted out the ol' U.G.L.Y. category and I think you'll agree it's time for a reappearance:

Rompers are adult onesies. I think the name "onesie" itself implies that you shouldn't wear one if you're more than a year old, but apparently Gap didn't get the memo. (Nor have a lot of other places, come to think of it.) I've never worn a romper and I don't know anyone who has, so if you're into them, or covet one, maybe hit the comments and explain the appeal. It doesn't matter if you're wearing one right now or if you wore an original 30 years ago, please help me understand. Am I missing out on an untapped segment of fashion glory? Is it awesome having to completely disrobe when you pee? I just... don't get it.

Now, about that jumper. The last time I wore overalls was the winter of 5th grade, so that would be 1995. There's even a picture of me wearing them with a lovely red turtleneck underneath (hooray for Christmas!). There are several important things to remember about that situation. One, I was ten years old. Two, it was the mid-90s. Three, they weren't skirt overalls.

Also note how boxy the model looks up there. Think of how unflattering that thing would be on the rest of us.

Does anybody still wear overalls? (If you're a farmer, it's fine, overalls were intended for you.) What about other henious 90s trends that are back, like flanel and belly shirts? If you can justify any of it, tell us how you made it work. I'm veeeeery curious.

  1. Hahaha I totally agree! Rompers are the worst! Who would want to spend money on something that's so unflattering and illogical?
