On the Cheap: Watch Yourself

It's said that you can tell a lot about a person by looking at their watch, which I guess makes sense, but has anybody ever heard any solid examples?  Like, if you wear a metal watch you're a hard worker, or if you prefer gold over silver you're part leprechaun?

I dunno.  I've been wearing a watch everyday since I was in elementary school, and lately I've been having trouble making them last.  It's pretty much the new-watch-every-year program at Casa Ronchetti, and I'd kind of like one that's not a total piece of crap.  The last three watches I've had either frayed along the seam (leather straps) or the loops holding the straps together FELL OFF.  Not cool.

Here's what I'm after: something under $100 that will make it all the way through the year without needing duct tape or super glue. And now I'm requiring good customer reviews to avoid another burn.  I don't think that's too much to ask...

Cute, cute, cute!  I love a nice black strap, and that appears to be faux crocodile--which is my favorite of all the pretend animal skins.  It's $89.60 and has a reassuring 4.5 stars out of 5.

Okay, I guess a watch can say something about a person after all: I like fake croc.  This one is a little sleeker, and though it's a little hard to see in the picture, it's actually rose gold.  $90.88 and 4 stars.

Since I feel like I've lost an arm every time I don't have a watch on, I wouldn't mind having one for dressy occasions, too.  This one is comparably priced at $84.12 and has a respectable 4 out of 5 stars (but only one review, so I'm still a little wary).

Do you wear a watch?  Have any good brands to recommend?

  1. oy! didn't I give you a watch for Xmas a year or two ago? Was it a dud??? I'm sooooo sorry. Oddly enough, I have pretty good luck with watches made by -- wait for it -- Joan Rivers! I get them on QVC and they're pretty sturdy and reliable, and reasonably priced. Might be worth checking out....

  2. You did, although I picked it out, if I recall. So I have no one to blame but myself. That was the one where the loops fell off. :-(
