Last week I mentioned that my poor sewing machine hasn't been getting any action. I was torn between tailoring a dress or making one from scratch, and in the end, I decided to take baby steps. Let's see how I well I do altering this:
I got it about a year ago when I went to visit my sister in Indy, and it's been getting to know the inside of my closet ever since (my bad). It's a house dress from the '50s, seemingly homemade because there are no tags. The dress itself is completely transparent, so I had to track down a full slip, too.
Here's how they look right now:
The dress doesn't need much work--I'll probably just get the sleeves under control--but the vintage slip is a nightmare. I have teeny tiny boobs (booblets, you might say), and the only slip I could find that was long enough was ALSO made to wrangle somebody else's huge chest. Awesome.
I should mention that part of the reason I chose these items is because this kind of fabric doesn't work with Unique Stitch. I'll be FORCED to use the machine, even if it misbehaves.
I'll keep you posted.
What are you working on right now? Anybody else sewing?
I'll be staying tuned to see the results. I don't really sew, but sometimes I dabble with my awesome 70's pea green machine.
ReplyDeletePea green?! That's so awesome!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love that dress! It's going to look amazing! I really like it on you already, so I'm sure it'll be completely amazing once you work your magic. And I'll have you know, I laughed aloud at "booblets"--ha!
