Housewares: To the desk!

I've been talking about re-doing my office at home for a loooooong time.  And now it's finally happening, because my sister has agreed to remove the thorn in my side and take the desk!  Woot!  To jog your memory, it looks like this:

Well, you've probably only seen it like this:

This was a few weeks ago. I've cleaned since then.

It's a desk/hutch/filing cabinet combo from IKEA.  It's not falling apart or anything, but there aren't enough shelves anymore.  I've filled the three that exist, and spend the rest of the time cursing the useless magazine racks on the left side.

So now I'm going for a slightly smaller desk without the space-wasting THING on top of it so I can put up wall shelves.  Perhaps one of these:

The masculine feel of a sawhorse desk will create a nice juxtaposition with the girly details I already have in the room. $169.95.

Of course, I have to consider IKEA.  It's practically a rule.  $119.

This one is amazing.  Too bad it's $700.

The more I look at the first option, the more I love it.  What do you think?  Where's your desk from (if you use one)?  Do you require a many-shelved solution like I do?

  1. I love seeing people's creative work spaces. I've been thinking about getting a vanity because I sit in the floor in front of a mirror every morning to put on makeup and I'm thirty years old. Something's wrong there. I might have to steal the sawhorse desk and get an awesome mirror instead. I can't wait to see how everything turns out. If you're like me, new space = new inspiration. I bet you could make/have someone make one similar to the $700 awesome one too...maybe.

  2. i think that organization is important when you are trying to be creative! bins and storage are super important. I think that you could go with any of these options, but they can still be messy if you don't make the effort to keep things organized!

  3. I have a library table that has been in the family for years that I love to use as my computer desk, but will be making a new desk/worktable soon from an old door I found in the bf's basement. Good thing his family never throws anything away!

    Found you through teams.

  4. Mandy, get a vanity! I've always wanted to have all of my makeup and jewelry in one place.

Brittany, yes, bins are key! I have a lot of storage already, but the shelves are too small for me to use all of it. SIGH. And I just keep getting more inventory...

  5. we have the second desk that you showed. it actually has a fairly small work space, so it may not be the best for spreading out.

  7. That first one looks strong and simple. Obviously the Lat one is my favorite, but if it is out of the range, it isnt right.

I dont work at a desk for Etsy, but I do a lot of work on saw horses so that seems like a natural choice for a surface you will be creating on. you will have to post some after pics when its ready.

  8. That last one is really nice...but also easily reproduced. Do you have any handy friends you could spend a Saturday afternoon with?

  9. Could you make a sawhorse desk out of... wait for it... sawhorses? The key would be finding an old flat door to use for the top, or just a thick wood panel. I think your little beads would get stuck in the slats of the last desk.

  10. Spangler, I thought about that, but I don't have anyplace for building or tool-using.
