Miscellaneous: Project Accessory

I mentioned last week that I'm throwing caution to the wind and trying out for Project Accessory--spinoff of personal fave Project Runway. There's a lot to do before the casting: make a portfolio, choose which items to bring... and pick an outfit.

In light of yesterday's post I don't really want to go out and buy anything new, so I've been going back through old 30 for 30 looks, hoping for inspiration:

This dress is a good option. Simple, flattering, and it would let my jewelry stand out. I'd just have to wear more practical shoes, since I'm pretty sure I'll be waiting around for a while.

Obviously I won't be wearing the tights in June, but a shirt and skirt combo would work if I decide to go for a more professional look.

Something like this might be too casual, but it's also how I look 75% of the time, so if I wanted to show my true colors right away...

I don't know. I'm also wondering if I should cut the hair, because it's getting medieval up in here:

I got a coupon for a free haircut in the mail, so I won't have to spend any money if I decide to go. Score!

Anyway, what kind of look should I attempt? Professional? Casual? Professionally casual? I'm really at a loss. Any help would be fantastic.

  1. I would say be as true to who you are as possible. I'm a big Project Runway fan myself and what I love are the contestants always seem to dress and act as they 'truly are.' So, I think that's what's important! Don't know if that helps!

  3. I love the first outfit. You can totally accessorize it because you are starting with a neutral palette. As far as the hair cut- yes, a new cut for a new challenge.

  4. Amanda, yes! They're casting for it this month. The info is here: http://www.goodbyepictures.com/casting.html

Manda Jane: I definitely want to feel like myself, but I'm as much a business owner as a designer so I'm having trouble with the balance. SIGH.

  5. I like the first option: it's a cute dress and it really shows off your jewelry.

  6. I love the first option - you look fantastic! Do you wear the dress often enough to call it your style? I think it's a great mix between professional and fashionable for that kind of casting call. And I love the shoes with it if you can make them work.

  7. I really love the first option with the dress (the shoes and necklace really make it great) , but I think my favorite is the casual look with the scarf and boots...probably because this is how I look about 90% of the time. I'd say go with whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident. Good luck!!

  8. My vote is the first outfit. Something that fit well is always a winner. And I think you are right, your jewelry will pop more. Best of luck!

  9. I think you go showing your personal style and personality. That's what they're looking for too, someone who will be interesting to watch and not just all business. Best of luck to you at your audition!
