New York... Again!

Those of you who follow me on Twitter and/or Instagram might know that the Hubster and I took a spontaneous jaunt to New York City a few days ago. He had to go for work, so we thought we'd take advantage of the paid-for hotel room and make it a trip for both of us. The same thing happened in March, but this trip was much more relaxing because I was in town for more than 36 hours.

We shopped, we feasted, we went to museums... And then I did more of those things solo on Monday. I was walking Hubsey to his office that morning when I stumbled upon the holy grail. (Not literally, but wouldn't that have been funny?) I wandered right into the welcoming arms of ABC Home, which is basically a department store for your house. Six floors--six floors--of furniture, and bedding, and accessories, and lights. It was heaven.

I only spent about an hour there because as awesome as it was, I got bummed out that I couldn't take any of the furniture with me on the plane. Plus, the prices were very New York. A vintage chalkboard for $200? An old school chair for $525!? It was still a nice treat for my eyeballs, though.

After that I went to the Met, which is still the only blatant tourist-y thing I've done in the city. Did you know there's an Egyptian temple in there?

My picture was blurry, this one is official.

Pretty badass, right?

In terms of food, we always eat well in New York. Our favorites this time were Shake Shack (again), and Craftbar, which to me was the best food we had the whole time. We went to Eataly again, and I feel a little bad about this, but the marketplace is better than the actual food. There! I said it. I feel like I'm betraying the Food Network, though.

Anyway, it was a great trip and I can't wait to go back. I'll leave you with a picture of my favorite building, which we stayed near again:

What were you up to this weekend? And earlier this week? I didn't bring my computer with me, so I have a lot of blog reading to catch up on. Have you been to New York? What do you like to do while you're there?

  1. Thanks for sharing your trip! I've traveled all over the world, but I've never been to NYC. I've only passed through the airport. It's high on my bucket list and I'd love to visit at Christmas. Sounds like you had a great trip. Cheers!

  2. Funny both out posts are NYC-themed today :)
I'm surprised you were able to take shots of the furniture inside the store!
I'd love to visit the Met some day!

  3. Okay, you had a WAY funner weekend than I did!
That store looks right up your alley! And that building is so cool!

  4. How fun to take a spontaneous trip to an amazing city! What an fun excursion. You got to hit a lot of neat places.

  5. SIX floors?! I think I would have died & went to heaven.

  6. Sounds like you had a great time! What an awesome perk of your husband's job. Sadly, we are really lazy when it comes to going to NY for some reason, I mean it's only a train ride (or cheaper bus ride) away but we hardly ever go. Maybe we'll go up for a day in Dec. :)

    1. Ya know, I have a friend who lives in DC and she does the same thing. They NEVER go. At first I thought she was weird, but then I remembered that I never go to Milwaukee and that's not even 2 hours away.

  7. I grew up in NYC but I never went to ABC Home because I was younger and not interested at all in those types of things. But that shop looks awesome! When I visit this winter I do hope I will have time to visit!

  8. Hey, I was in NY over the weekend as well!

I love the Met, unconditionally. New Yorkers love it too, it's not as much a touristy thing as, say, going to the Statue of Liberty... My favorite thing to do in NY was spending winter days at the Met, by myself, wandering for hours until I jumped into a different reality.

Anyway, did we cross paths? How crazy would have been to encounter each other in NY, randomly? :o

  9. Love all of these pictures! It's been a few years since I've been to NY.

  10. I used to live in NYC and I absolutely loved it. By far my favorite place to live and this is coming from a chick that was raised in Chicago. I love going to The Met because it's free. Did you know it's free?? All you have to do is say.. hhmm I think today I'll pay 5 dollars! I was in NYC this past August and of course I had a blast as usual. We'll be going back in Jan. I try to visit several times a year because my best friend lives there and so does Ryan's father.

  11. ABC Home is a beautiful store but yeah, waaaaay too pricey. Hit me up next time! =D

  12. I haven't been to New York in a long time - and I've never been to a Shake Shack - but the company I work for builds them!

  13. Oh my goodness!! I'll be in NYC for New Year's Eve, so I'll definitely have to check out your suggestions. ABC Home sounds like a dream come true :)
