I'm not one of those people who shops for clothes in advance. There are some extreme bargain hunters out there who will buy all of their clothes for next summer right now because everything is on sale. And while I understand the lure of that particular siren song, I don't want to wear my cute new sandals for two weeks before I put them away for months. At this point, I'm in cold weather mode.
That being said, I was perusing some sale areas the other day just to see, and I actually found some items that will work for fall. And then I kept looking some more and realized there were whole categories of non-summery stuff people could pick up this time of year for a great price. So I thought I'd share in case you were in the market for some new goodies.
>> Lightweight sweaters. These are great transition pieces anyway (for those restaurants that think you want to experience arctic air), and can also be worn under a blazer when the weather cools off for real. Yellow, $40 // Stripes, $49
>> Year-round dresses. Stores carry more dresses in warmer weather, so now's the time to stock up! As long as you skip the pastels or fabrics that are ultra-flimsy, dresses are easy to pair with boots and wear into fall. Heck, I do that combination all winter and then switch to flats in the spring. Ruffles, $15 // Color Block, $17
>> Neutral shoes. Maybe this is a normal thing, but I never noticed how many of these were on sale in late summer until this year. There were a ton of flats, but I noticed a good selection of heels that would be good work work, too. Flats, $50 // Pumps, $50
I haven't purchased anything, but I am eyeballing that yellow sweater. Okay, both sweaters. What's your favorite here? Do you like to buy clothes ahead of time to score a great deal? Or do you stick to the current season?
I have actually started buying the kids' clothes at the end of the season because the deals are so flipping good, but I know that if I buy a size or two big, they will eventually wear it and being on trend is not as big of a deal. This is particularly good with seasonal items- bathing suits (for $1!!!!! Thanks, Old Navy.) and winter coats. Or end of season shoes!
ReplyDeleteFor myself I tend to shop when I need something, except if it's layering stuff like white tees, then I'll pick that up any time.
I am buying that adorable Ruffle dress right now! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that striped sweater! I am clinging on to summertime clothes just like I'm clinging on to summertime until the weather gets cool, but I agree that you can find some really great transitional pieces on sale right now!
ReplyDeleteVery cute. Love the bright yellow sweater -- like sunshine on a cold, cloudy day.
ReplyDeleteGreat picks, I love that bright yellow (although my wardrobe mostly consists of dark greys, blues and blacks). I love sales for basics, but I have to be careful not to buy clothes for their low prices.
ReplyDeleteI love these dresses!
ReplyDeleteThey start seasonal clothes so soon now that when I'm grabbing things on sale it's in the middle of that season - or I can't find it.... For our vacation in August I was out shopping before for new shorts - couldn't find anything.... :-/ Just lots of sweaters and jewel tone pants.
ReplyDeleteI do love your dress suggestion! maybe I'll start browsing.
When I worked for The Loft, I bought clothes ahead of time but now that I'm a super poor student I'm just going to make due with what I have. I'm not really good with fashion stuff. Maybe one of these days I'll get with the program, if not I'll just have to go back to working for Ann Taylor so I can get a discount and fashion help.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much for shopping out of season either, but it's great to pick up versatile pieces like these when you can.
ReplyDeleteI never shop out of season but I really should. That's definitely when you can score the best deals. I love all these picks. :)
