Shifting Into Fall

It's officially fall! And providing that Mother Nature doesn't throw us any more curve balls, I think I can finally say the hot weather is done. For real this time, because I got faked out a couple of weeks ago.

Since it's finally getting chilly, I've been in the mood to make the inside of the house a little cozier. Nothing crazy, but I'm getting the urge to bust out some darker colors and fuzzier fabrics. I haven't actually done anything yet, but here's what I'm thinking:

fall throw pillows
Brown  //  Orange  //  Yellow

We have a pillow abundance at our house (and by "we" I mean "me") and changing them up is a fast way to freshen a room. I saw that brown studded number at Target the other day, and it would be so easy to mix with the bolder patterns that are in right now. Darker oranges, yellows, and reds are perfect for this time of year.

We're one of those couples who can never agree on a thermostat setting, so we tend to split the difference and I end up under a blanket while he wears shorts. We have a blanket that lives in the family room year-round (it's this one) but I like something a little fuzzier in the fall and winter. Plaid has always been a favorite of mine, and I just think there's something inherently cozy about a nice wool blanket draped on the back of a chair. I saw a big display of these at Crate & Barrel last weekend, so I'm sensing a comeback.

If you ask me, it's never too early to start putting pumpkins around the house and/or front porch. Carving them is fine, but the older I get the more I'm drawn to pumpkins that get interesting, non-traditional treatments like paint or glitter. All of these tutorials are adorable, and if you decide to use a fake pumpkin when you get your DIY on, you'll already have decorations ready for next year.

Are you getting into the fall spirit? Who else already bought some mini pumpkins at the grocery store? I put a bowl of apples on the kitchen table to be festive, but something tells me they won't be there for long...

  3. The red and blue plaid blanket is awesome!

I'm so happy that Autumn is here! I wish the weather was more Autumn like (we're still at the same temperatures that we had early August and with the A/C on), but I'm crossing my fingers for a less warm weather arriving soon.

  4. Love the orange throw pillow! Because I cling to summer by my fingertips, I never really get in the fall spirit until well into October. But I'll never turn down a fresh apple or cider!

  5. Love the plaid blankets! I use afghans crocheted by family members -- they don't match my living room colors but I use them anyway! Yep, time to get out the pumpkins! I like the white ones -- easy to work into any color scheme!

  6. I usually change my pillows for the fall/winter season and add some chunky candles to the table. It's already dark by 7 pm over here!

  9. I love the plaid blanket that's draped over the chair. I have two blankets in the living room, all year round. A white and a black one, I think I need to get another (less dull) one!
