Same Song, Second Verse

Ten months ago I re-vamped my office/the guest room. And 10 months ago, this setup was perfect! Magical! Why would I ever need to change it?!

I think you know where I'm going with this.

I was trying to organize everything (again) as part of my 12 in 2012 when I realized that I couldn't unpack my craft show display because there's not anywhere to put it. Soooo... now it's in a big pile on the floor. And I obviously can't just leave it there.

After a pow-wow with the Hubs, I've decided to rearrange the furniture--the desk and bed are switching places--and get some kind of storage/standing workstation combination. Naturally, I hit up the IKEA website for ideas:

A dresser might seem like a weird choice, but something like this is exactly what I need. The drawers will provide a lot of storage, and at 38" tall, it's slightly higher than kitchen counters... and therefore perfect as a standing workstation. It's $149.

I like this one, too, and it's the right height, but I'm not sure how it would look with my sawhorse desk. It might be too different:

I'm also tossing around the idea of getting some of my beloved Expedit shelving in there, but we'll see how things look after we move the furniture. Hopefully we'll get that done tonight.

As for these lovely dressers, do you have a preference? I'm leaning toward the first one. Maybe you have some other fun storage idea I haven't thought of? How do you store your supplies?

  1. I like them both. I like the antique look of the second one.

I think we are always rearranging our offices! LOL

  2. I like them both too but I'm leaning towards the first only because it reminds me of my end tables. :) You really don't want to know how I store my supplies, it's a disaster lol!

  3. I bought Expedit!!!!! I went Monday and got one for my new space and one for Gus's room. LOVE!!!! (I know, that's a lot of excitement over a bookcase. Anyway...) They also had a new purple (not gaudy- it's like gray-purple) standing cabinet with two doors and 3 shelves inside. It's new, and not on the website yet!

    1. Expedit deserves such excitement! It's splendid.

Also, a purple cabinet?! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled!

  4. Love your before photos but I understand storage issues!

I vote for the first dresser. I think it will "fit in" best with the other furniture there. The legs are similar to the saw horse table and to the bedside table. I've seen the bedside table at stores!

  5. You know, I actually love this idea because, rather than exposed shelves, it can hide some of your mess. Which gives you the permission to be a mess sometimes! I've got a combo of drawers and shelves- and I LOVE that the drawers keep the cats out:)

  7. Good old Ikea! We have the first one (in white) in my kids' bedroom. To make it a bit more interesting I changed out the handles that the dresser comes with and put on some fun ones. I really like it.

  8. I just keep my craft fair display supplies in large storage bins. Almost all of my supplies fit in 2 tubs so it's easy to tuck them into the corners of my craft room. Good luck!

  9. A dresser is a great idea! Like you said...lots of storage and a table area on top to work on!
I like the first one just because it matches my style more, but the second one is pretty and adds a little more decoration to the room.
I like Emma's idea of adding fun handles!

  11. I like both of them, but the first one does fit in better with its simple design. I'm interested in seeing your finished office area.

  13. The first one looks so functional and would fit in with any decor. I do love the drawer pulls on the second one.
