One other thing that seemed weird at the time but makes sense in retrospect, was my love for making up clients and decorating their homes. I would get elaborate. Not only would I draw out the floor plan for their entire mansion (all of my clients were very wealthy) and meticulously include furniture, but then I would explain their entire life story.
Anyway, you can probably guess what I've gotten back into:
In my defense, I didn't make up any people. I just made up the room in an imaginary house, which is a big step toward normal, yes?
White cabinets are my favorite things ever, and I'm loving the glass fronts here. They act like more windows and make the room feel open and airy. The pops of turquoise are fun, as is the bold rug that also keeps things from being too match-y. And that light fixture. Come to mama. I decided that these hypothetical clients were sticking to a realistic budget, too. Prices and source links can be found here.
What quirks did you have as a kid? Anybody else prematurely into interior design? Or yarn booby-traps? Whaddya think about this delicious kitchen?
I'd say those childhood games are paying off!
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to be an artist when I was young, but I thought that only meant drawing or painting...which I'm terrible at. I'm glad I found out you can be an artist in so many ways :)
I was obsessed with legos - Every school project/book report requiring a diorama was constructed out of legos. Maybe that's why I'm a contractor now.

ReplyDeleteI've had an interest in interior design since I was fifteen! While others spent their summer job money on clothes I spent mine on design books :)
ReplyDeleteI lived on the edge of town and thought it would be very cool to have a pet gopher. We used to set up little lassoes around the holes where they lived and hide behind our bikes. (There's not a lot of trees on the open prairie.) When the gopher would stick its head out the hole, we'd pull on the string and try to catch it.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say we never caught one, but my parents did buy me a guinea pig not too long after. Thank goodness for that. Apparently, gophers can be quite nasty.
As they say there is a fine line between creativity and crazy. I'm not 100% sure where that line is at times but so far so good. There's been no permanent damage (I think).
Ya so I was pretty much the best fashion designer in the WORLD when I was 10. I have all the sketches to proove it ;)

No shame in that, that's why reality TV is so popular- everyone loves to peek into the lives of others:) I used to do the exact same thing as a kid too. And you just reminded me that I need to get on painting our cabinets!!

ReplyDeleteUm, yep me too. When I was little I made furniture for my Barbie dolls and then rearranged it a lot. I was designing before I even knew what that was! Also, love the kitchen. :)
ReplyDeleteI did two things when I was younger that I sort of do today. First.. I had my own laboratory. I had a microscope, astronomy guides, and a chemistry set. What did I major in college in? Physics! I also tried to sell jewelry. When I was younger I was given a bunch of old jewelry and I tried selling it. I was about 8 or 9. Now, as an adult I'm trying to be a business owner. I just wished that I followed that little voice in my head years ago because perhaps I would be more on track! But, at least I got there.

I have always flip-flopped back and forth between different craft interests, currently it's pretty much anything! I remember going to the flea market on Saturdays when I was 6 years old and rented my own table selling little string necklaces, bracelets, and keychains!
