I know I just wrote about my shops the other day, but tomorrow marks a big milestone and I couldn't let it sneak by without saying something.
Can ya guess what it is?
Can ya guess what it is?
This is kind of a surreal day for me. I still get a little awkward and flattered whenever somebody buys my items, and I'm honestly kind of shocked that people are still interested enough in what I'm doing for this to keep happening. Thanks to everybody who's purchased from either shop, who buys at craft shows, who reads this blog, who has ever Pinned or Tweeted one of my items... You guys are just as much a part of this as I am, and I'm so grateful that you chose to support me.
To my friends who help at shows, to my family who talk me up and hand out business cards, and to my husband for being the best partner in every sense of the word: I wouldn't be here without you either. Thank you for your many ways of helping me.
I get to wake up everyday and do whatever I want. It's been a lot of work and there have been trade-offs (and stress), but the main takeaway is still the fact that I'm in charge of my own path when a few years ago I thought I never would be. This is far and away the best professional decision I have ever made. Really, the only thing that could top this would be... hell, I don't even know. Planting a tree that grows diamonds.
So now that I've gotten all smoochy and made myself misty-eyed, I wanna give you one piece of advice, and it's probably the most business-y thing I'll ever say: Diversify your revenue stream. Have more than one way to make money. You know what they say about not putting all of your eggs in one basket, and it's so true with a business. I have two Etsy shops, I sell at craft shows, and I do a few wholesale orders a year (though I really could be better about that one). If you have a bad month in one area, you can usually make up for it in another.
I don't really know how to end a post like this. Do you have any questions about running a business? Looking for any tips? I would be more than happy to share or give the best advice I can, since I got a lot from others when I was first starting out. Do you have any info of your own to share with the class? Drop us a note in the comments.
Happy Friday! And seriously, you guys are so awesome.
Congrats Paige!!!!!!!! This is really a great anniversary to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteLike you, a few years ago I never thought this would be possible and waking up everyday knowing that I'm truly in charge of my life is such a great feeling!
And I completely agree with diversity! And variety too...it keeps my business fresh and open to new customers.
I wish you much success in the next year :)
So happy for you Paige! Wishing you continued success :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats! This is great!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Wishing you much success!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everybody! :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Paige, and that's very good advice too. I have no questions at the moment. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats! What an exciting Year! I love your advice. If I had more time it's been my dream for almost a year now to start a note card line or shop in Etsy. It's something I actually purchase alot and I have a passion for paper products as well.
ReplyDeleteCheers to another successful year ahead for you!
(I wear my earrings at least twice a week btw! perfect for fall!)
Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteI dream of taking this plunge one day but I'm sticking to the rat race for now :).
Congrats!!! I feel like it was yesterday that you were announcing you were leaving your day job.
ReplyDeleteWow...that is so amazing! I'm so happy for your success! I think that's a wonderful tip you gave at the end- I never really thought about it like that. But you're right- that's what I need to do more of in the future for sure!
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo, congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Paige! I'm so glad that this path has worked out so well for you and wish you much success.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you!!! I am so very happy for you. I'm striving for that same thing myself and I actually see a little glimmer of hope there. I told my husband last week that this will be the last year I'll be driving 30 minutes (more on bad roads) to work in our brutal winters. He said he has faith in me. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteYou are a lucky girl and you are inspiring me to work harder. Keep up the good work.
Big congrats lady! Your work is beautiful and you deserve it. I think your advice about diversifying your revenue stream is golden too, especially in this economy. xo
ReplyDeleteYou are a brave woman, Paige. Congratulations and I wish you even bigger success in the future. The more baskets, the better!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first year! What you're accomplishing is my dream and I'm in the start-up process right now, actually. I've got a ton of questions, but my main one would probably have to be: How much money did you save before taking the leap? I currently work part-full time and it's so hard to find the time I would rather be spending on getting my business running. What ways did you find best for advertising and getting your name out there?
ReplyDeleteI've been slacking on posting more about my craft business and tutorials, but I would love if you checked out my blog!
