Who was pumped to get the new 2014 IKEA catalog in the mail a couple of weeks ago? I was! Every time they send out a new one, reading it becomes An Event. I make a snack, ignore my phone, and start earmarking pages. I try to make sure Hubsey is sitting right next to me so when I find perfect things I don't have to go running all over the house to show him. He's a pretty good sport.
I know some people aren't as into IKEA as I am, and that's fine. I'm weird and like to put furniture together, but maybe that's not your bag. Either way, the new items I'm about to show you are pretty and can always serve as inspiration if you'd rather hit up another store. It was hard to narrow it down, but these are my five favorite newbies from the blue and yellow palace:
>> Sofa - Historically speaking, I shouldn't want to commit myself to something so bold, but this is the second emerald green sofa I've fallen for in less than a year. Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something? Also note that it's velvet and would be great for naps. ($999)
>> Chair - This is also velvet, and while you probably can't nap in it very well it unless you're a toddler, think of how sophisticated your house would become if you had a boss velvet chair camped out by a fireplace or bookshelf. ($499)
>> Curio - We're not really knickknack people, but if I could see something like this metal and glass case working as alternate storage in a small bathroom. Or maybe as jewelry display if you have a good spot for it in your bedroom. ($179)
>> Rug - I've been eyeballing yellow rugs with trellis patterns for a couple of years. The people at IKEA are getting pretty good at reading my mind. ($199)
>> End Table - Because I'm a nerd, this little table is very exciting to me. It's a design that was originally sold through IKEA in the '50s and they're bringing it back. Holler! ($59)
What were your favorites this time around? Do you plan to get anything? I can't believe how much I want that sofa. The chair, too. Which of these is your favorite?
Wow that couch and chair seem very UN-Ikea like, I like it though. I haven't received a catalog in a few years, I guess I forgot to update my mailing address with them, eep!
ReplyDeleteI received it yesterday, and this evening will be spend watching Project Runway and flipping through the new catalogue. I like your selection, it looks very promising.
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought I'd be excited about a green sofa either, but that sofa is pretty fantastic. IKEA is over 2 hours from us, so we don't make it down there all that often, but I love it.
ReplyDeleteOh man that is a beautiful couch. And I just bought a shirt at target with the same print as that rug, except it's the palest shade of chartreuse. *love*
ReplyDeleteIt's good that I am miles and miles away from the nearest IKEA. I love their fabrics as well as their furnishings.
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love when the IKEA catalog lands on my doorstep :) If I had a bohemian styled living room I put that green sofa in it!!
ReplyDeleteBtw, I'm still searching for a rug... ;-)
Don't know what just happened...was typing a comment and then the screen refreshed itself and I think it went away. Anyhoo, I was expecting more new stuff this time around...felt like I'd seen everything in the catalog already...though we had just been to IKEA the week before the catalog arrived so maybe they've already rolled out the new stuff? I do have pretty high standards for IKEA though, which is maybe not fair since they are already making really great stuff for really cheap, so what is with me anyway? ;)
ReplyDeleteThat color green is one of my favorite greens, maybe the only one I could live with on such a large piece of furniture. Also, I'd seen that cabinet a few months ago and almost bought it in the off-white color for our dining room but the dimensions weren't right for our space.
My IKEA catalog still hasn't arrived. What gives?! Although any furniture I buy this year will be for baby's room, I do love that end table. Very 1950s atomic.
