Welcome back to the blog! How was your Christmas? Ours was delightfully low-key and spread out over several days, which is how I like it. Since then, we've been parking our butts on the couch and watching as much Netflix as humanly possible. And football. And some clandestine Downton Abbey. (Yes, the new season. And yes I'm going to watch them all again on PBS.)
Our New Year's is going to be on the casual side, too. We're going to another couple's house for dinner and board games--Cards Against Humanity! Cranium! Scattergories!--so I don't need to worry about finding a dress. If I'm being honest, this kind of celebration is more my speed. We tried to go out to a bar a couple of years ago and it was just... tiresome. College students were jammed in like sardines, a couple of girls got into a fight and then kicked out, it was a good time.
Anyway, I'm going to wear things I already own, but I did some poking around online just to see and I think this look would be great for a party at home:
It's festive and kind of sparkly (because IS the one night a year when you get a free pass on glitter), but not so loud that you'd look strange drinking wine in somebody's kitchen. I normally try to pick a favorite item in these pretend outfits, but I really can't this time. I LOVE the blouse, and I want that purse more than I want a chef to magically appear and make me some nachos. The blazer would also be a versatile piece to have around. Gaaah! I can't pick.
What are you doing for New Year's? Anybody braving the bar scene? Who else is going the board-games-at-home route? What's your favorite item here, if you can narrow it down?
Your line about the purse and the nachos is HILARIOUS! Speaking of blazers, I've been eying a blazer lately, but can't choose between the black or a coral-ish color. Black is going to go with everything and will be much more versatile, but the coral one is pretty fabulous as I love my pops of color. I think I may get in trouble if I buy both, which will probably ultimately result in me taking too long to decide and purchasing neither. As for New Year's Eve-- we're going duckpin bowling with another couple and then heading home to watch the ball drop. Andrew and our friend Nick keep saying, "It's not quite a low-key New Year's, it's going to be more mid-octave."
ReplyDeleteHahaha, mid-octave. I'm going to start using that.
DeleteWe are going to a rock concert a friends band is playing, then family Monopoly marathon and a sheet fort. We havent ever tried the bar scene, would much rather have elbow room.
ReplyDeleteWe did the board game route for Christmas so NYE is going to be the bar scene. The plan is to have an early dinner of duck and then head out to the bars. I'm not so sure how packed the bars will be since Charlottesville doesn't have a huge 25-35 crowd but it should still be fun anyway. I also found this cute knit dress at Old Navy with lots of glitter for 11 so I'll be wearing that!
ReplyDeleteThis is actually really similar to what I'm planning on wearing! We're off to California for my Brother's wedding and he's in a show NYE - so we'll be attending that and then who knows what. I was going to do skinny jeans, my new black oxford heals, and a black lace top, adding a blazer if it gets chilly. It will be so nice to not be in the normal 20 degree stay at home NYE weather expected in Boston.
ReplyDeleteOoh, very classy indeed :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be wearing a paillette cropped jacket in gold with black pants! We will have friends over for some drinks and snacks and then watch the fireworks :)
I like the idea of putting together a stay-home-on-New-Years outfit. You put together a fabulous ensemble. I was drawn into the glittery aspect of it, but every piece is great. Our New Year's Eve will be pretty low-key as well. :)
ReplyDeleteIf I were able to walk in heels, I would get myself a pair of those! So far, our plans for tomorrow involve cheese, sounds good to me :-)
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, this outfit is amazing! I love the outfits you put together. I can't even pick a favorite, but I guess if my life depended on it, I'd pick the blouse. ;) We're going the stay-home route as well, but mostly because I'm pregnant and don't like dealing with the noise! Haha. Hope you have a good New Years!

Everything is so pretty! I'm really in love with the shoes <3
ReplyDeleteI won't do anything special. I will go to my parents as we do every year and have dinner with them. I keep telling myself every year that I'd love to go somewhere special (for example to have a two days trip to France or something), but then I never do. Maybe next year! But like you I'm not a fan of going to bars or clubs or that kind of stuff, celebrations with lots of people really make me stressed!
I think we're going to have some family over for pizza, snacks, and most likely board games. I love not going out, actually. We don't have tv to watch the ball drop, and we tend to be in bed and asleep before midnight, but I am totally ok with that.
ReplyDeleteI love a post that makes me laugh out loud--thanks! Could you actually wear those heels and not hurt yourself? I love everything else about the outfit . . .
ReplyDeleteHa, no way. But I like to pretend I'm more coordinated.
