A Bit of Organization

Things are getting a little tidier in Casa Ronchetti! Only 98% of the house to go. I love starting off with the "after" photo. It makes me feel so much more accomplished than, say, if I bombarded your poor retinas with this mess first thing in the morning:

Keepin' it reeeeeeaaal.

I don't even know, you guys. It started off all organized in there, and then it became the place where I'd shove everything before company came over. I see a gift bow, a mysterious cable cord, the thing for anchoring the dust buster to the wall, a packet of seeds... It's weird in there. I've meant to organize it for a while, but I ALSO keep intending to organize the closet in my office, so my expectations were pretty low for actually getting this done.

Then we took a trip to the Crate & Barrel outlet a couple of weekends ago and I saw a shelf full of leftover Christmas tins for $1 each:

Like any normal hoarder person, I bought five. Only two of them were used here, but we have other clutter explosions around the house, so they'll find a spot.

Admittedly, the little green containers only did 20% of the work here. The rest of the equation was tossing all of the extra stuff that crawled in there over time. Now we just have the manuals for our appliances, a mail center with stamps and envelopes, and a very basic tool kit--because sometimes we don't feel like digging out the big guns to fix one screw. Oh, and that's the power cord for the dust buster. For some reason I always end up charging it next to the table, so I tossed that puppy in here, too.

If you're not near a C&B outlet (I'm not sure how many there are), you can always grab a couple of tins from the thrift store. They're always picked over at my GoodWill location, but maybe you'll strike gold.

What's your junk drawer situation? Are you already organized? If so, tell me your secrets. I'm curious to see how long ours stays this way...

P.S. Don't forget about the Instagram/Facebook jewelry sale tonight!

  1. I know it easier to say then do about organization:) It is not so much in my blood lately. So, this year I decided to make a day of the week to clean and organized my office, studio, blog:) Challenging, bur rewording in the end. Good luck on your! xx, Lana

  2. very nice. We have our appliance manuals/warranties/receipts in a binder with sheet protectors, one appliance's items in each . That way we know where it all is (or at least I do). I think I'm the only one that puts anything in there, even though it's in the family room for all to use.

  3. At first, I thought that first photo was a before pic...I thought I was going to have to send you a pic of a REAL junk drawer. Haha. I love using mini containers to separate things---doesn't everything feel so much better now :)

  4. Wow, that's a lot of stuff you've piled in the drawer!
I think I've mentioned before I looove C&B. We don't have it here, but luckily my brother knows I love their items and usually brings me stuff when he visits :)
    The boxes are great!

  5. I was thinking the same thing as Angela! I wish the amount of clutter over here could be reduced to one drawer: there's a whole cupboard of clutter over here...

    1. To be fair, we also have a junk room that we've started calling "the library" because it sounds less like we're hoarders.

  6. Yes, we totally do the "company shove". And then I have to find everything I hid away when people are gone, since I usually have a to-do pile hanging out on the counter. We have one small drawer in the kitchen for the stamps, rubber bands, pens, etc. and then another cabinet houses the small tool kit, batteries and the like. Clutter drives me crazy, even if it's in a drawer.

  7. Yay! That's exactly what I need to start doing, organize drawers, specially the ones that contain "mixed" items. I find boxes and containers really easy, at least they keep things organized and separated in drawers. Good luck with the other 98%!

    1. BTW, this is Laura from "La Caseta de Paper". I just happened to comment with my other account (which I never use for blogging, but I didn't want to delete the comment either :p )

  8. looks great Paige! I have a terrible junk drawer, that rarely even gets opened, so that means I don't even need the stuff in there. I am the worst organizer ever. I wish I like to do that stuff.

  10. My junk drawer looks a LOT like your Before photo, sad to say. But you've inspired me! There's hope.

  11. We have junk cupboards! I wouldn't even know where to begin on those things!
Way to go on getting it organized...now to keep it that way :)

  12. We are generally pretty organized in the Duve household but one thing I would like to improve is my work closet. I feel like I have things all over the place and I think this weekend I might try to get some of it organized. I have so much fabric that it can get pretty out of control.

  13. You can find tins like that at the dollar store too. Gotta love a good clean out, and organize project. Especially when you get to that 'after' part. :) xo!
