The Pinterest Challenge: Fall Edition

I have a hard time completing my DIY Pinterest projects on a regular basis, so there's nothing like another widely-issued challenge to light a fire under my arse:

As much as I would have loved to get this baby built in a matter of days, Hubsey wants us to take our time figuring out the entertainment center, blah, blah, blah--so I had to scale things back a little:

This was originally a Martha wedding idea, in which you spray paint hideous candlesticks to match your theme colors, and pair them with coordinating candles.

We're already married, and therefore don't have a reception to accessorize, but we do have a big ol' coffee table that could use a new holiday look.

First, I rounded up some old candlesticks. The wood ones are about 4 years old and lived on top of the entertainment center. They're fine, but I'm ready for more color in here. The brass ones I found at GoodWill over a year ago, and I bought them for the sole purpose of painting them someday.

So I did! Primer first...

...then a layer of silver craft paint on the wood pieces, followed by a thin-ish coat of metallic spray paint on all of them--which is like fairy dust in a can. I accidentally got some on my hand and it sparkled for a few hours. (Like a vampire! No, I'm kidding. Don't even go there.)

I let each layer dry for about a day, but it would be fine to move it along after about 45 minutes.

Once everything was ready, I dug out some tapered candles and additional glass votives, just to give the arrangement a little more oomph:

Whoa! They look crazy tall from down here.

I looooove them! In fact, I wish I had painted them sooner. They're a little sparkly for everyday use with the rest of our decor, but I'm thinking they'd be just delightful for a party. Maybe I can bust them out for a few weeks closer to Christmas...

If you did the Challenge too, don't forget to link up with Sherry, Katie, Ana, and Erin. I'm excited to see what everybody made this time around.

Have you been crafty lately?

  9. Great idea on the candlesticks. I just joined Pinterest. There is not much on my page yet, but I can see how it can become addictive.
