New Year's Style

Here's the thing: I like to dress up for New Year's, but I don't necessarily want people thinking I moonlight as a hooker. (I'm sure it's an exciting life, but not one for me.) I kind of feel like New Year's is  turning into Halloween, in that gals wear the tiniest clothing they own and nobody stops them. Which is unfair to my eyeballs, because I've seen enough tights-as-pants to last a lifetime.

Anyhoodle, I have a classier getup in mind:

The most versatile glitter shoes I've ever seen are $89, the gold chandelier earrings are $17, the beaded clutch is $39.99, and the vintage LBD is $35.

See? Glittery shoes, a beaded purse, and a dress with a criss-crossy back. Fun, and all without making me wonder if it's even possible for you to sit down in an outfit that short.

So what are you wearing for New Year's? Anybody else alarmed by the tiny clothes trend emerging for this holiday? I just don't get it (and now I feel old).

  1. That's so true - the "classy" has gone from New Years Eve - thanks for bringing it back!

  2. Love your New Years Eve look - I really can't get myself to dress up in the winter... wish I could. Maybe next year.
This year - New Years Eve is our big moving day! I'll be wearing jeans and a new athletic jacket I got myself for Christmas - maybe I'll post a moving outfit feature!

  3. I definitely agree about the classy being gone from New Year's. Your outfit choice is much more appropriate! All the pieces are beautiful.

  5. I'm usually home on NYE so I don't see the small clothing but I do prefer your suggestions. This year I'm going to a party and I just scored a cute Kimono Blouse from H&M for only $7!!! It was marked down from $29.95, woot!

  7. Ha! That made me laugh because it's so true. I'm sure my outfits look matronly in comparison because I insist on covering all my lady parts. That clutch is gorgeous!

  8. Great choices! I always feel underdressed on New Years cause I'm not wearing itty bitty clothes! I don't want it to turn into the new halloween.

  10. I so agree with what you said about the "less is more" approach to the holidays. I am in college, and girls at my school seem to think the less they wear the better they look. What ever happened to modesty being sexy? Plus, you stay warmer when you go out if you are wearing legitimate clothing! I for one will be wearing a classic Miu Miu dress that covers!

  12. Love the clutch! I want to take it to the opera right now! The earrings make me think of chandeliers, or vintage Christmas decorations touched by candle light...

I've felt under-dressed during New Year's before, due to the fact that I don't own many outfits that glitter or shine...
I've often resorted to wearing a ton of buckles & layers of old lace, which means I end up looking like a perky little prince.
