A Glimpse Into My Childhood

When you're cleaning out the back of a closet, for example, do you ever come across something you TOTALLY forgot you had?

Happened to me yesterday. Behold, my ceramic unicorn:

Not only do I own that, but I actually PAINTED it. I was 11 or 12, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever created. And apparently I deemed it awesome enough to come with me when I moved out, because there it was last night, staring me down with its blank eyeballs.

I like that I thought to give it eyeliner, but no pupils. It's kind of hard to see in the pictures, but its mane and tail sparkle, so maybe I just didn't want it to get blinded by its own hair.

Anyway, I'm wondering what to do with this fine creature. I was all prepared to send it to GoodWill, but then I started taking pictures and gave it a name (Gary, which I suppose also gives him a gender), and now I feel like I can't just give him to a store.

Basically what I'm saying is, do any of you have a need for Gary the Fabulous Unicorn? I thought I'd give you first dibs before I (reluctantly) donate him to complete strangers.

I'm serious. I'll totally mail him to you. Have a little cousin who likes fairy tales? Want to freak out the person in the cubicle next to yours? Think a shiny blue unicorn will just look good in your house? He's yours.

If you're interested, let me know in the comments. Or if you have another idea for Gary's future, I'd be glad to hear about that, too. Poor guy needs a home that isn't a box.

  1. Are you seriously giving Gary away? Because if so...I'll totally adopt him and give him a good cat filled home to live out the rest of his unicorn life.

  2. Yes! I feel bad leaving him in a box all the time. His sparkles need to be in the sun.

  6. Great that you were able to say goodbye to him and send him off to a good home!

I've been thinking about cleaning out our linen closet. I don't expect any really interesting finds in there! LOL

  7. Gary is spectacular! I can see why you kept him, but he definitely needs to shine and shouldn't spend out his days on a crowded Goodwill shelf or in the back of a closet. I love finding treasures from my youth, though I don't think I ever had anything this awesome. :)
