In an unprecedented display of quick decorating, I've already made something to put in our sad, accessory-less bedroom:
Get a load of how it looked when I bought it:
HOLY MOLY, right? Those are some serious flowers. But it was only $14, big enough to go above the dresser, and an interesting shape--and I knew it could be easily transformed by the power of spray paint. Oil-rubbed bronze, to be exact.
A tip, if you're going to use magazine paper instead of newspaper to cover the glass, make sure you double it up. You don't want any rogue paint getting through.
It's hard to capture in pictures, but in person it's a rich brown with a very slight metallic sheen. We have assorted light fixtures with this finish, so it'll fit right in.
I'm also enjoying how it looks against the light walls. One item down, 476 to go!
Have you found any thrifty treasures lately? Or spray painted anything? Or wondered why pastel flowers were such a trend? (This one family in my childhood subdivision had them EVERYWHERE. With textured walls. Gaaaah... Sensory overload.)
P.S. My sweet friend Gail invited me to do a guest post over on her blog today! It may or may not involve yardsticks. Check it out to see what else I made recently!
It looks lovely! You did such a great job. When I attempted to paint the edges of a vanity I rehabbed last year...the paint indeed made it's way onto the mirror. Great find and fabulous makeover!
ReplyDeleteSuper great find!
ReplyDeletei recently found a model car display shelf thing in my in-laws attic - I plan on spraying it white, lining it with felt, and using it at craft fairs!
Looks great!

Great job! It looks fab. Yup..I have the spray paint collection of a graffiti tagger!
ReplyDeleteWhat an upgrade! I love the shape of it and the dark brown looks great on your walls!
ReplyDeleteWhy pay crazy prices when you can create something so lovely yourself? I love this, Paige. I love thrifting - going to Goodwill is one of my favourite shopping trips ;)
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Enjoy the new accessory, you crafty lady!

The brown looks great and I love the shape! You did a wonderful job with this. Now that the weather is getting warmer, I'm excited to try some spray paint projects.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! It's so much more special knowing you did it yourself!
ReplyDeleteWow, you are a girl with a vision! Those flowers were terrifying but you have come up with a stylish mirror in the end!
ReplyDeleteYour mirror turned out fantastic. I love when you find something nice and with a little paint can transform it into something great.

Very nice! I just did a bunch of thrift frames black for a wall display and they turned out spectacular. I have to say I'm partial to the old paint brush technique as opposed to spray paint cans - I like to glob it on nice and thick!
ReplyDeleteWe bought our house from a man who is now 102. He left behind a gorgeous mirror; however, it was gold and I am not a gold kinda gal. So I spray painted it a beautiful brown color and I absolutely love it. An original piece to our house, just a little more glamorous! Love the mirror you did here.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job. Perfect on your wall!
ReplyDeleteHopping by and following your lovely blog.
