Sleeping Beauty

Our bedroom is the only space in the house we haven't decorated. (And by "we" I mean "me.") It's basically the room where furniture goes to die. We have Hubsey's old bed, my childhood dresser and one matching nightstand, a different nightstand from a flea market, and two massive bookshelves we don't have space for anywhere else.

I'm not even going to show you a picture, that's now bad it is. We've just left it alone because so few people ever see it, and we wanted to get the main living areas done first. But now that everything else is lookin' sweet, our bedroom seems extra sad.

Hubsey hasn't seen this yet, but here's what I want to do with the space:

You guys know I love me some IKEA, so it shouldn't surprise anybody that four of these items are from the blue and yellow palace. The graphic duvet cover is $39.99, the gray-washed Hemnes dresser (similar to the one in my studio) is $299, the coordinating nightstand is $59, and the cool glass lamp is $59.99. The crazy affordable colorful prints, $15 each, are from Etsy, as is the Dwell Studio pillow for $40. Add in a gallon of paint for $25-ish, and we'd only be spending about $550 if we bought every single thing here.

Of course, I like to DIY things so maybe some of this will change as we go. And there's also the issue of my snail paced decorating strategy, so it might be unrealistic to expect finished pictures anytime before Christmas. Thank you for your patience.

So what about you? Anybody else bitten by the decorating bug? What room do you want to change?

P.S. Thanks for all of your comments and emails about yesterday's post. You guys are the best.

  1. Right now I'm in the middle of redoing our kitchen and dining room - Garden Sage green paint on the walls with one opposing wall in the dining room Expressive Plum...and I just finished repainting the entire dining set (black but left the table top natural wood) and reupholstered the chair seats. Lots of work but for me it's all fun!

  6. I can't wait to see what you do!
I've neglected our living room. I'm not sure what's under those walls but we can't hang anything up! So we have nothing pretty on the walls which I would love to change. I probably need to work on a solution.

  7. This is a lovely idea! I typically design things in my head before sharing with hubby too. It's just easier:)

  8. We actually want to move again in a couple months, so I really don't want to decorate anything here. I'm starting to dream up ideas for our new place, though, even though I have no idea where we'll be or what it will look like! I love all your picks. :)

  9. Pretty stuff! Our bedroom is decorated, but usually messy. I mean, that's what closing the door is for, right?

  10. While Jake was in med school and we lived in a condo, our bedroom furniture was very similar: Jake's old bed, my and my brother's childhood dressers, and a Target bookshelf. We did have pictures on the walls, mostly wedding photos and prints we got from our wedding (i.e. love quotes). We upgraded to a new bed and TV stand (instead of just using one of the dressers) when we moved to Milwaukee. Our dressers were built by my great-grandpa so they're not going anywhere, but eventually we may use them for our kids instead. My decorating pace is also snail like. I just have to keep setting small goals and working on them one a time so I don't get overwhelmed. Good luck with your bedroom!

  12. I love your choice for this. The light colors and that lime/grey combo are superb for a bedroom. You'll have to post what it looks like when it's done.
