Countdown!

Let's talk about Halloween! I've been ready to bring this up all summer, but for the sake of most people not being as weirdly thrilled about it as I am, I thought I'd hold out until I actually saw some decorations in stores. We live in a bigger place now, so it goes without saying that I'm TOTALLY PUMPED to have room for real decorations and a party with more than five people. And! And! The kids in our new 'hood actually trick-or-treat! Almost nobody in the condo building dressed up, and those who did just went to the historic district. Ugh. Party poopers.

Anyway! Here's what I have in mind.

One thing I've done in the past is changing out our regular pictures for Halloween-y ones, so this year I might kick it up a notch and do our food labels (I especially like the dragon eyes, ha).

We don't really do jack o'lanterns because neither of us want to clean up afterwards, so I'm thinking that putting brass thumb tacks into pumpkins will be a much better idea instead (plus, sparkly!):

A mini cemetery would be a fun upgrade to my $1 terrarium! Not sure where I could score tome itty bitty tombstones (dollhouse furniture... maybe?), but this needs to happen:

Couldn't find the original source! Anybody know?

As far as costumes go, we're still waffling around between various themes, but I keep coming back to zombies. Maybe some kind of Two-Face/She-Zombie hybrid, if I can find the patience to do this much detail:

Are you thinking about Halloween yet? Decorations? What about your costume? Is there anything you've had in mind for a while that just hasn't worked out? I'd still like to be Beetlejuice, but that's SO elaborate...

P.S. Don't forget to enter the giveaway for a $10 shop credit to Posies and Petals! Cute hair accessories abound, y'all.

  1. I've been thinking about Halloween because like you! we finally have a house in a trick-or-treating neighborhood. I'm trying to come up with a plan for the front porch.

As far as costume, I really want to try and pull of Katniss

  2. I actually just checked the calendar to see when Halloween starts and I realize that I'm working late that day. :-( so I may not be able to enjoy it. But I do plan to decorate because I still love the holiday. Kids don't come to our neighborhood because the University of Virginia holds this huge trick or treat party of the community.

    1. Oh no! You could always do something fun the weekend before, since it's on a Wednesday.

  3. We've been talking about Halloween because I like to have advance notice on what kind of costume I need to prepare. We decided that Gus would be Sir Tomham Hatt from Thomas but Gus decided he's going to be a ghost. His first costume pick on his own! Hubs always carves pumpkins, but I've seen some really neat alternative ideas on Pinterest. Last year's Halloween was in the middle of that huge storm, so it may be our first trick-or-treat Halloween in our own neighborhood.

  4. The food labels are really cool! We don't celebrate Halloween as such, but there are still people who have theme-parties on that day. Also, I've been meaning to show this really fun Halloween novelty fabric, but I think it's too early to post on my blog ;-)

  5. I started to think about it the other day when I was in Michaels and I saw the decorations out. I love Halloween although I don't really decorate, it's strange. I have no explanation for it.

  6. Love!! I am obsessed with Halloween, it's my favorite holiday. Really love that pumpkin idea, but I also love carving pumpkins and making the seeds. That zombie makeup looks like so much work but it's seriously amazing. If you pulled that off... best costume ever. I haven't picked a definite costume yet, but I'm kinda leaning towards slutty pumpkin ala how I met your Mother.

  7. Those brass pumpkins are genius. And it's a bonus that you could use them again year after year (won't spoil like real pumpkins and they seem durable enough to hold up unlike some cheap Halloween decorations I've seen that I'm sure get thrown out after one use). Also, I love the zombie idea. I've been pretty lazy with my costumes the past decade or so, haha. Maybe I should do something a little more creative this year.

  9. (sorry I had to delete my previous comment because I was logged in incorrectly!)

I've been wanting to bring up fall (aka sweater/legging/boots weather) for all of summer but have refrained as well haha. Halloween isn't my favorite but I'm sure that would change if I had kids to dress up! That mini cemetery is pretty cool though.

  10. You are officially the best planner ever. I usually can't think more than a week ahead. I'm going out of town for my husband's band's show so I won't here for trick or treaters and usually don't decorate much, but I will definitely be in need of an interesting costume idea. Love your zombie idea!

    1. I'm only a good planner when something is fun. Ask me how many overdue library books I've had, haha.

  12. Oh man, I love this upcoming season! I always suck when it comes to Halloween though. I have big plans to make or buy a costume and I haven't in the past 4 years. Wop wop.

  13. i'm excited for you. i don't have to throw a party because my next door neighbors have a costume party in their barn. i only have to walk 25 steps...of course, last year it was through a blizzard, but the keg of pumpkin ale was worth it. we went as Quasi and Ezmarelda. :)

  14. Hmn...I'm not actually. LOL. I'd love to be one of those people who decorates, but I just haven't done this for any holiday at all yet! I say, when I have kids I will....

Love your picks though- those pumpkins are really cool:)

  15. I wasn't thinking about Halloween yet, but I am now! We are lucky to live in a neighborhood where kids trick or treat, too, which is a lot of fun. We don't do much to decorate for holidays around here except for Christmas, though.

  17. I already have a live black cat, some black cat and pumpkin decorations and a cat door decoration. The zombie thing looks cool. We don't get into it too much anymore, but my birthday's the next day, so I love Halloween.

The pumpkins with tacks are so cool.
