First, a permanent way to personalize plain mugs with a Sharipe. Just draw, then bake at 350 for half an hour. This is perfect, because I have 6,000 leftover markers from my office job and they mostly just sit there.
We're considering an upholstered coffee table in the family room (for less head-bonking of future offspring), and we want to make it ourselves. A square one like this would be perfect:
I love this modern take on traditional embroidery. Might be nice to do during these long hours I'm spending parked in front of THE OLYMPICS:
And finally, how to make your own pouf/ottoman. This yellow one is cute, but I've also seen some smart people use thin woven rugs:
What have you been making lately? Any of these striking your fancy? Is there anything you've been wanting to try but haven't gotten around to yet?
Whoa...that embroidery is way cool. And I LOVE how your mugs turned out:)
ReplyDeleteI also have been wanting to make a pouf... and maybe an upholstered bench. Love the ottoman/coffee table example you showed. I had been eye balling the same one at BD for my friend's living room! BTW, just discovered your blog yesterday and I'm hooked! It's so weird because Kate Middleton is totally my imaginary bestie too!! I guess she can have more than one... ;)

That embroidery is striking my fancy. :) I can't even begin to figure out how to start that project. I also kinda hate my coffee table, it's the same one I grew up with that was handed down but I can't bear to throw away. I would like to have something a little more modern like what you're thinking about.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to talk my husband into a big square upholstered coffee table right now! We've had an old scratched up thing from a yard sale for years... it's time for a new one! I like the idea of trying it ourselves, too.
ReplyDeleteAhh, Sharpie's. What don't we use them for? And like you, I've been "etsying" while watching the Olympics. Multi-tasking has never been so much fun!
ReplyDeleteLove the Embroidery! And I have been meaning to try out the mugs for a while - so simple I just need to do it already!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the mug idea. I've seen that before and I was thinking Ikea mugs...put them in the shop? Would that be bad? LOL Now I'm going to have to go look through the hacks. :) Happy weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI need to do that mug DIY! I've been so uninspired right now and it needs to stop. I've been having a hard time coming up with Make Its! Summer and winter usually suck the creativity out of me.
ReplyDeleteThese are great DIYs! I haven't done one either in so long I've lost track. For shame. I've also been looking at coffee table/ottomans for our new place (which we don't have yet) because while we have a wooden coffee table now, Peter just puts his feet up on it every night anyway, so we might as well have a piece of furniture that was designed to be used that way. It's hard to find one that doesn't just look like an ottoman or that isn't way expensive though. Hope you have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteThe embroidery is awesome! I haven't been doing as many DIY projects lately. We've had so much going the past month. I've been out of my normal routine. I know that as the weather cools down and we're not going out as much, I'll be crafting more.
ReplyDeleteThese are all GREAT finds. I would expect nothing less from you, my creative friend. I am off to pin these all now. And then in 17.5 years when my child goes off to college, I'll have time to make these!
ReplyDeleteVery cool finds, the embroidery is cool! I love the idea of using sharipes to decorate an old mug. Thanks for sharing that idea.
