Handmade Holidays: For the Dudes

What's this? A weekend post? I couldn't wait to show you guys the list that Holly put together, because I think it's one of the most helpful in the Handmade Holidays series: stuff to buy for guys. To see more of Holly's great ideas (not just about the male half of the population, but in general) you can check out her blog and her super-cute Etsy shop.

----------

What is it about men that make them so impossible to shop for? Every year when the holidays roll around I find myself in a panic trying to shop for the guys in my life. Queries about what they want are met with a "don't get me anything" response, or worse "surprise me." So I've created a cheat sheet with some great gifts I've found under $50 for all the men in your life.

1: BEER/FOOD 2013 calendar, $24 via redcruiser.etsy.com | 2: Beer Tote, $40 via FrickandFrackScraps.etsy.com | 3: Beer Soap, $6.01 via drksoapcompany.etsy.com

Aside from my brother, and one underage cousin-in-law, all the men in my family love beer, and I'm always looking out for cool beer-related gifts. These are some of my favorites this year! The calendar pairs illustrations of drinks and food (my husband would be drooling!), the holder is perfect to tote beers to a bonfire, and the soap is a beer lover's dream.

1: Personalized Sign, $42.99 via Lovejoystore.etsy.com | 2: National Parks Map, $35.00 via ElloThere.etsy.com

Lovejoy was included in an Etsy Finds newsletter a few weeks ago and I fell in love right away. They have a huge assortment of personalized wood signs for anything from a man cave to motor homes to deer camps. I'm also a big fan of the National Park map. The neat thing is it comes with little tree stickers so the recipient can mark which park they've been too!

1: Christmas Egg, $20 via LittleOkins.etsy.com | 2: Chocolate Message, $24.99 via ChocolateSays.etsy.com

With my dad over living half way across the country, these are the top contenders for his Christmas presents -some fun surprises! To the left is a hand painted hollowed egg with a message inside, and the recipient has to break it open. Cool, right? The other is a message spelled out in chocolate, pretty much an edible greeting card!

1: Wes Anderson Postcards, $40 via suPmon.etsy.com | 2: Life Aquatic Flask, $17.95 via WhismyAndInk.etsy.com | 3: Moonrise Kingdom Pillow, $20 via passivejuicemotel.etsy.com

Who doesn't love Wes Anderson? From Bottle Rocket to Moonrise Kingdom, he's created a slew of hits. The postcard set contains 12 illustrated drawings from some of his best. The flask features Bill Murray as Steve Zissou. The Passive Juice Motel's pillow has Suzy and Sam from Moonrise Kingdom. On their own or paired with a movie, these be great gifts for any fan!

So what do you get the men in your life? Any other ideas to share with the class? I feel like we could all use a hand with this one...

  2. boys are so difficult to buy things for. I asked my brother what he wants and he's like 'I don't know.' I managed to get out of him that he wants a new pair of shoes. And my boyfriend is even worse! I really have to think out of the box for him.

  3. Thanks so much for including my post in your Handmade Holidays series!

As a side note- it's always awesome to make things too! One of my husbands christmas presents is a print I made for his cubicle with a quote from one of our fave tv shows that says "There's always money in the banana stand" and for my father-in-law I ordered a mini photo book (2"x3") with photos of him and our son together from the past three years :)

  5. Great ideas!! My hubs is the worst. I actually just bought him (yesterday) a bunch of humorous t-shirts, which he loves and needs new ones of, and a terrarium! I was so excited about that because he LOVES plants but there aren't a ton of good sunny places in our house for them.

  6. I am totally stealing some of these beer ideas for Noel's xmas gift. I just took him to brew his own beer for his birthday, and he was in HEAVEN. Although I must say, beer soap? Not sold on that one :)
