Anyway, it was another busy weekend over here! I had my big two-day show in the city, and it was the first time some of my newest inventory saw the light of day. The coasters and spike necklaces were crowd pleasers.
However, there was a bit of an issue. As I was setting up on Saturday morning, I wandered through the rooms and noticed there was a lot of jewelry. In fact, a lot of people who did ONLY jewelry, and since this is a juried show I really expected them to have a cap. It seemed like they did last year and the year before, so I don't know what the deal was. Luckily I was able to bust out my coasters and magnets on the second day to set myself apart, but I'm still frustrated that they had so little variety. Sales were okay, but I feel like I need to be choosier since this is my job. I'm not sure if I'll do this one again.
But on the bright side (pun very much intended) we did see some awesome Christmas lights after we got home:
Yep, that's the entire front of somebody's mansion covered in cascading lights. (And no, we don't live in the mansion neighborhood. Just drove through it.)
So how was your weekend? Did you have a show? Or see some excellent Christmas lights?

It seems like doing shows is a huge learning experience. Trying to figure out which one is best and which one is a waste of time. I haven't seen too many Christmas lights in my neighborhood. I'm starting to think these people out here in VA aren't that into Christmas. I spent my weekend studying. I finals in 5 days and I'm still working a 40hr work schedule so I really should get back to studying instead of trolling blogs. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteYowza! Those are some lights. I've been meaning to take a photo of my neighbor's house because it's jam-packed in the most awesomely tacky way with every conceivable Christmas light-up thing they could find. :)
ReplyDeleteOur house is the only house in the neighbourhood with some festive fairy lights outside :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry the show wasn't what you expected, and you are probably right about being choosier next time! Your display looks lovely :)
Jewelry is SO competitive (I know from experience), so good call on the coasters! Every person is different, though, and some my like quirky pieces, while others like more traditional pieces, so it's all about drawing in your target customer.
ReplyDeleteWow...I'm pretty surprised to hear they let so many jewelry artist vend if it was a juried show too...that's too bad!! Glad you had some variety of products though. That house on the right is crazy!!! I wonder what their electric bill will be like this month?!
ReplyDeleteWow those are quite the lights! My sister's husband gets pretty competitive about Christmas lights. Whatever makes you happy I guess lol
ReplyDeleteIt's no surprise that the spike necklaces were a big hit. Of course! Because they're awesome!
ReplyDeleteThose mansions and their lights...Soooo pretty!
My weekend was pretty laid back. This next weekend will be a different story entirely (taking the kids out to the mall to walk around and see Santa...Wish me luck!).

That sucks that the show wasn't extremely successful but maybe it helped get your name out there? Looks like you had a great set up :)
ReplyDeleteI love the exhibit! :) I love the lights too! If only we owned a house :)
ReplyDeleteI found you on the Weekend Update LInk up and I'm now following :)
