Office Space Revisited

The last time we talked about my office, I was lamenting the fact that I didn't make it more of a priority when we moved in. (Fool!) I've been slowly plugging along, but I just got a little boost to make it go faster. On Saturday, I took one of my friends to the show with me while Hubsey stayed home and played Halo. Or so I thought. I get home that night and he's showing me all the stuff he cleaned around the house, and look, he made our bed, etc., etc. And then he goes, "Okay, this is how much I love you--"

"YOU CLEANED MY OFFICE?!" (insert my joyful expression here)

He totally did! Both school projects were all over the floor, Christmas gifts were in two places, and there was the general jewelry explosion that comes with doing too many things in not enough time. But now that it's so fresh and so clean clean, I want to get it DONE.

office plan

I need a couple of more basic things, like a better lamp and a TV so I'm not constantly hauling my beads down to the family room when I get tired of silence. I've also decided how to fix a couple of major problems in the space:

office changes

I won't do an entire wall of cork like the one seen here, but I found an industrial supply company that sells 4' x 8' rolls of cork you can mount yourself. Perfect! And as for the door idea, the current closet doors are mirrored and they make me feel like I'm in a fun house. (Or they reflect all of my mess back at me, which is also terrible.) They gotta go.

So we're making progress! I actually just ordered the cork and it's supposed to arrive tomorrow! I doubt I'll have a chance to do anything with it until next week, but at least it'll be here. Have you updated your workspace lately? Or ever put cork on a wall? Anybody else have non-conventional closet doors? I wouldn't mind getting some other ideas for those...

  2. The curtains look like a great idea - I'm planning to do the same in my laundry room. I used bamboo blinds in high school on my closet - it looked neat but was such a pain to get stuff out!

  3. I love the idea of some cork space on a wall. Can't wait to see what you do with it. :)

  4. I love the idea of cork on the wall - I have a cork board in the kitchen that is super helpful. We have bifolds on our closet in the bedroom. I plan on keeping them but they are currently still unfinished wood. I have a plan for them! Just need to carve out the time. Have you seen the patchwork dresser at West Elm? that's my inspiration - I'm obsessed with it.

  5. I really like cork boards. I had a huge one covering one of the walls in my room as a kid. I miss it - so I love your idea of the cork inspiration wall. Awesome!

  6. What a nice husband! :)
I'm not a big fan of mirrored doors on closets, period, but I think it would really bother me in an office. I don't want to be reminded of the mess I'm making either! Haha. Can't wait to see what you do with the space.

  7. He cleaned your office?? Wow.. thats awesome. Ryan will clean the office but he'll put everything that is 'mine' on my work desk. I currently have enough space on my desk where I keep my laptop and we have a TV in our office too if I want to have Netflix on. I plan on adding another corkboard somewhere to the wall.

  8. I love the cork wall idea! It reminds me of being back in studio (which oddly enough isn't an awful memory) and having to pin up our work.

  9. The cork board wall idea is fab. I could put the contents of my desk (and floor)up there! You look so organized. Sigh.

  11. love the corkboard idea! would you mind letting me know where you ordered it from? I'm doing a wall with blackboard paint about 4 feet up from the floor (for the kids to draw on) and then cork above that for paper art projects, with a little ledge shelf in between, for 3-d art :) But, I can't find a roll of cork that big. where'd you find it?!! Thanks!

  17. I love the idea of a whole wall of cork and curtains instead of closet doors. Have fun finishing up your space, it is always nice to have a fresh and clean space to work.

  19. Fantastic! Congrats. I have been using virtual serviced offices for a couple of years now. I am hoping to switch to a physical space in another year, when I do, I will consider contacting you to help with my interior design.

  20. Your Hubsey’s effort to clean your office is a very sweet effort! Your plans for your office are indeed very nice, especially those curtain closet doors. It looks very nice, especially when you have to place a curtain that matches with the color of your wall. I wonder how your office looks like now. I hope you direct me to your post that lets me see that. Thanks!
