Life Lately: Birthdays and Broadway

The chaos of December continues! Last week I took my finals, shipped 17 orders in three days, and flew to Phoenix with Hubsey for an early Christmas get together with some of his side of the family. After that kind of busy, I gave myself a few days to relax in the desert and did some exploring. I'd never been to Arizona before, and maybe I got a little picture-happy:

Those lanterns were hanging in the restaurant we went to on Friday night. It was at the base of a mountain, something else I don't see a lot of in my daily life. // That ring is something called boulder turquoise, which is kind of the inverse of the regular stuff we see all over the place. Instead of being mostly turquoise with bits of earth in it, this is mostly earth with pieces of green turquoise. // That pottery is from a store specializing in Mexican imports. I'm going to turn the tiles into a coaster set for the basement. // And that's a mountain, obviously. I took this picture from a moving vehicle, so I think it turned out pretty well.

The other big update in my life was my birthday! I turned 27 on Sunday (officially in my late 20s!) and my present from Hubsey was tickets to see The Book Of Mormon. For those unfamiliar, it's a broadway musical from the creators of South Park that's about, well, Mormons. Probably not your cup of tea if you offend easily, but I sure don't, so I thought it was delightful.

But more on that in a second. Here's what I wore for the occasion:

dress: H&M
tights: Target
boots and clutch: Nordstrom
earrings: F21
necklace: I made it

This outfit is full of great deals. The dress was on clearance for $10, the boots were a birthday gift from my parentals, and the clutch is normally $135 but I got it for $25. Hollerrrr! Plus, all of it is really comfortable, which seems to be my new requirement now that I'm creeping toward 30.

Anyway, I've already had a lot of people asking me how I liked the show. It was hilarious! I should preface that by saying that I've been watching South Park since it premiered and really enjoy this kind of humor, and I'm also not Mormon. And I don't offend easily. And my inner monologue is sprinkled with profanity anyway, so it was kind of fun to see it mixed with dancing and glittery vests. (Oh yes.) I definitely recommend it for anyone who can track down some tickets. We bought ours the day they went on sale in Chicago, which I believe was in March. The dates here have been extended through June, so there's still a chance if you want to go.

So that's my life update. What's new with you? Getting ready for Christmas? Seen any musicals lately? Am I the only one who's seen The Book Of Mormon?

  1. No matter how old you are, I will be always be older...if it's any consolation! I want to see the Book of Mormon, we just haven't gotten around to it yet. I better get on that because I too do not offend easily at all. I think it would be right up my sarcastic and snarky alley!

  11. Happy Birthday! Love your outfit! Book of Mormons is coming to Boston in April - I'm excited to see it! My brother acutally auditioned for the tour on Tuesday! I don't think he's heard back yet (I'm sure he would have told us all right away) but it was the first super big audition he's gotten! He's been doing alot of musical theater in the San Diego area.
