Mission Yuletide: Complete

The last time we chatted about decorating for Christmas, I was in a bit of a pickle. Back in the condo, which was literally half the size of this house, we only had one main living area to deck out. And most of that work was done by the tree, since hello, it's a tree in your house. I had a couple of knickknacky things that I put out, too, but this extra square footage was still lookin' pretty bare.

Until now! What up, dining room?

I'm not the kind of gal to put Santas and snowmen everywhere, so I took a more subtle red-and-metallic approach. We still have our little tabletop tree from last year, and for some reason both of us forgot how small it was. Oh well, that just means it went up faster.

Over on the table I busted out my first ever runner (which I suppose I could have ironed before I took these pictures...), and added some pretty red hydrangeas that were half off at Michaels. Those candles I already had in my stash, and the glass holders are from IKEA.

In terms of DIY decor, I found a set of coasters at Target and put together a little project for Kristen's blog. This one has been floating around the house, but I like it here with the pine cones and sparkly tree:

Down in the family room I put another teensy bowl of pine cones. That red tree next to it was something my mother-in-law didn't want, so I gladly took it off her hands.

And the last pocket of seasonal fun inside the house is on the hutch in the kitchen. Another framed coaster and more sparkly hydrangeas (I seem to have some favorites, don't I?) and a mercury glass ornament from a local store:

We can't forget about the deer on the porch! They were the first things I put up, and since our Halloween pumpkins got destroyed by hungry squirrels, I was a little nervous leaving them out. But they're going strong. Strong and adorable.

How are your holiday decorations coming? Are you done? Anybody else rocking a treetop table this year? Did you make any decorations yourself?

  1. Looking good! I think I already told you but I love those reindeer. We haven't started yet. We are going to get the tree this weekend, and then I guess everything else will happen after that. I like how I say it "will happen" haha, like little elves will come out to do the decorating for me. I wish. Not really. ;)

  2. Everything looks great! (Don't worry about the un-ironed runner...I wouldn't have thought to iron it before its photo-op either!) The framed coasters are really cool!

  3. Thanks for the tour of your space! I love the sparkly hydrangeas and the glittery deer!

When we do eventually decorate (we are still in the season of Advent...Christmas decorating happens after the last Sunday in Advent around my haus) I really want to rock a table tree like you! I am having my inlaws for Christmas dinner so need to come up with an inspired centerpiece. Am thinking a giant bowl of mandarin oranges. And pinecones for our forest. Easy + Cheap!

  4. Tabletop trees are the BEST! We've had one for about 3 or 4 years. The part I like best is that -- duh! It goes on top of the table! Otherwise, the whole living room has to be rearranged and the table ends up in the garage for a month. Our little 4-footer is just the right size for me to wrangle myself (with a little help from the kids), so no need to wait for spousal help. Extra bonus!

  5. I love the reindeers for your front door. Those are really cute. I have started my decorating. I have started putting up my decorations. It's been a slow process because I'm super busy.

  6. Perfect and simple! This post was definitely refreshing after subjecting myself to all of those horrid tacky decorations! We haven't decorated yet, but I think we're planning on doing that this weekend. We're the same way where we like to have just a few things around the house. No over the top crazy snowmen and Santas everywhere.

  7. Your Christmas decorations look great! I love how many classic pieces that you have. They will hold up for many years. I'm still rolling out decorations for this year, but I love what I have up so far.

  8. We don't have a table top tree, but our tree is super small and could possibly sit on a table. I've been adding a few things here and there, but as usual, probably won't be finished decorating until the day before Christmas. :) I love your decor - very modern and chic!

  11. I love your traditional, modern Christmas decor! I'm a colorful decorator and well, you'll find elves, Santa's, Father Winter, etc. all around our room. XD Yes - room! We live in Jen's childhood bedroom, but we still have a full size tree and quite a lot of decorations. We manage to squeeze them all in! Right now, just the tree is up!
