Pantone 2013: Emerald

Last year when Pantone announced "tangerine tango" as their color of the year, I wasn't that excited. Orange has never been a favorite of mine, so I was kind of ambivalent about the whole thing.

But THIS year. This year it's a totally different story.

emerald

Emerald! Aside from purple, this shade of green was my favorite color growing up. I still like it a lot, and making this collection reminded me that I have almost nothing this color in my house or closet. How did that happen? Methinks it's time to get some emerald spray paint...

This collection isn't the most affordable group I've ever put together, but I love all of the picks and couldn't resist. My favorites are the shoes ($203) and sofa ($1399), and that dress ($144) would certainly get a lot of wear. I think the green of the gloves ($49) would look nice with the gray of my coat, and even though that wall sconce ($640) is totally wrong for the style of our house, I still dig it. The earrings ($95) have a great Art Deco flair, and the belt ($48) and tray ($78) are great pops of color.

So what do you think of emerald? What's your favorite thing to have in this color? Did you like last year's color better?

  2. I really love this color and I think it's a great pick. (That chair in particular is fabulous). Perhaps some emerald jewelry might be in order? Well, faux maybe. :) I'm not overly fond of orange either, so this is a great choice.

  3. Maybe it's just the fact that I spent four years at Syracuse University wearing orange, but I liked the Tangerine Tango much more than the Emerald. Emerald seems much more traditional and conservative to me while the tangerine seemed much more exciting! However, I think I could see this darker, richer color paired with some bright jewel tones in order for it to feel a bit more exciting. I'm going to need some time to let it grow on me.

  4. It's such a great color! And you're right that the dress would get a lot of wear with it's simple style.
I might just have to look for an emerald sweater next time I'm out :)

  5. I LOVE an emerald earring!
I'm a huge green fan - but I also find myself buying orange constantly - expecially in bags, shoes, and my workout gear.

  8. I am loving emerald as the color for this year too! I recently saw an Etsy treasury with all emerald, and it was gorgeous. That chandelier shown up there is so pretty!

  9. I love emerald too! I actually did a post on this Monday. I'm not normally into jewel tones but there is something equally fresh and rich/dark about emerald.

  10. I was not a fan of tangerine orange. I'm not a huge fan of orange in general. It's so bright! I LOVE green. Green is my favorite color and it's really sad I don't have enough green things. One of the reasons green is my favorite is because I was a huge fan of Sailor Jupiter and her color was green. yea.. I'm a big kid.

  15. I agree with you: tangerine tango, not a huge fan, but I do love emerald for clothes and accessories. I am curious to see how it plays out in our homes though, because it's SUCH statement color. Maybe I'll have to see it more, I just can't imagine an emerald sofa. I'll just stick to small accents...and clothes :)

  18. Emerald can have lots of depth, and a good emerald dress is timeless, but I fear it is a color that can easily go stale... I prefer orangey tones myself :)
