2013 Goals: First Quarter

At the beginning of the year, I made a list of 10 things I'd like to do in 2013. I don't call them resolutions, because that makes it sound like you have to start IMMEDIATELY on January 1st, and shame on you if you don't. So I call them goals and take my sweet time instead. It's hard to believe we're already halfway through March (St. Patrick's Day is this weekend?!), but here's a Q1 update on my list:

1. Exercise everyday. Nope. More like once a week if I remember. I tend to think about it when I can't do anything about it, like in the middle of a lecture, or immediately after eating a bunch of spaghetti.

2. Drink more water. I might not be doing a lot of yoga, but I'm definitely staying hydrated. I find myself craving water instead of other sugary drinks now, which is nice.

3. Read two books a month. Considering my ultra-busy schedule so far this year I wasn't sure how this one would go, but I'm actually on track! I just finished Bringing up Bebe (loved it) and Before I Go To Sleep (had a twist that actually surprised me). Up next I might do Game of Thrones.

4. Reach 900 sales in Little White Chapel and 300 in Oh Nostalgia. I need to tell you about some changes. Let's chat about that in goal number five...

5. Overhaul both product lines. Well, Little White Chapel doesn't exist anymore, for one thing. I have a longer post coming up about this, but that shop has now become the Oh Nostalgia Wedding Collection--which I actually like a lot for branding purposes. I gave the shops a makeover so they're more cohesive overall, and I've been deactivating a lot of older wedding items. For the first time ever, Oh Nostalgia has been getting the lion's share of my attention and I like where it's going. It feels weird, but I dig it.

6. Paint the cabinets. Mainly the kitchen cabinets, but this also refers to the built-in shelves in the basement. We're taming the beasts over my spring break!

7. Plant stuff in the garden. It's too early to plant anything outside yet, but I picked out some seeds. I'll count it.

8. Stick to a budget. Well, we did sit down and plan one out. We have yet to actually keep track of anything on paper, but it helps to have certain numbers in mind when we're wandering around at the mall.

9. Focus more on interior design. I'm dipping my toes in the water and doing some design consultations for friends. Ideally I'd like to make this another online business, and perhaps take the place of one of my shops. I need to figure out some more time to work on it first.

10. Do more DIY projects. I revamped my $10 coffee table and then painted a mirror. Not a ton, but I guess it's better than nothing.

**Bonus** Figure out the furniture situation in the family room (and preferably put it in there). Aside from that coffee table, not much has been happening down there yet. Well, we're ripping out the carpet because it got wet, but we can't really sit on that. We'll get there!

Did you make any goals/resolutions for the year? How are you coming along? Anybody else stalled in the exercise department?

  1. Wow, you are really organized! My goal recently has been to take care of myself a little better so I can take care of my people better! I tend to take care of everyone else and then realize that I'm starving or dying of thirst. :) Hoping to start exercising more, too!

  2. That's quite a list, Paige!! ;-)
Although it must have been so much work re-branding, I really like your
new shop name! Don't think I can manage to exercise everyday, but I definitely need to exercise more ;-)
The best of luck with everything!

  3. I'm still working on my 101 list in 1001 days - I have a draft blog to finally share it, I created the list last year. About the budget - I was always a stickler about our budget - but with work getting crazy I didn't have time anymore. This year to started to manage it on mint.com instead. It's awesome.
My husband took it all the way with these set up - and the way it works: say we budget $200 a month on house stuff - there is a phone app and when we're shopping we can easity look up where we are at with it on the stop - it takes in all your transactaions and sorts them in your little buckets. I LOVE it! And we've been saving lots of money with it too!

  4. Working out is the one thing I do twice a week, but I feel like I need to up that! Twice a week is actually my sluggish mode. I've worked out an average of twice a week for two years now, as of next week, and I'm pretty proud of it! It's probably the only good for me thing I do regularly, though.

  5. That's awesome you've been reading more. My husband is reading the Game of Thrones series and loves it!

  6. It looks to me like you're doing pretty well. I am not nearly as organized, but this motivates me to try a little harder. And congrats on everything happening with your shops!

  7. This is inspiring. I'd already given up on my New Year's resolutions, because I figured I'd already wasted too much of the year not holding to them. But why not make new resolutions for quarter 2 and try again, right?

  8. I like your goals. I have been working on drinking more water and more diy projects. The projects are things now being sold in a local store and why we are making more room for me in the garage. It will be interesting to see what you do with your design goal.

  9. I think having the two shops under one name/brand is really smart. Also, Peter just ordered a bunch of seeds for herbs and sunflowers. He also checked out 2 library books and has been studying up. I'm sort of leaving it up to him at the moment (but let's face it, will probably butt my nose in and have opinions before stuff actually goes in the ground). Also, I really like your kitchen inspiration photo. Hope the water sitch is under control. So did it turn out to be just the crack in the floor and not the sump pump...I hope?

  10. I like your list, doing more diy-projects is one of my goals as well, as is reading more. I love that book illustration!

  11. You're doing so well with so many of your goals! I struggle with how I'm going to balance so many different interests and pursuits in my life on a regular basis. I don't have any easy answers, but it is definitely worth pursuing.

  12. Great job! I should look over my goals list and see how I'm doing. It looks like you're making great progress so far, and since you're checking in on your progress, it shows that you are keeping your goals in mind!

  13. Great work on your goals! I'm probably 50/50 right now on which goals are doing well and which ones I haven't touched.
I just started exercising again this week...so far so good. After trying on dresses for a wedding last weekend, I decided putting it off any longer wasn't an option!

  15. I'm so glad you posted this. I was actually thinking of doing a similar post, but held back because I'm not on track with all of them. It's nice to see that you are staying focused. Guess I should work on mine.
