Regular readers might be surprised that I picked this room for today's Affordable Style installment:
I can't really explain it, except that maybe the fumes from the allegedly low-VOC primer I used yesterday killed some brain cells and now I like color. Actually, what draws me in more than the colors are the patterns. The room is so rich and layered, and it really nails that collected-over-time feel that a lot of people are going for these days.
So let's see how we can make it happen on a regular budget:
>> I couldn't believe it, but I found a purple couch! And not just any purple, but the right mulberry-ish purple. It's from Wayfair, which is a great place to check if you're looking for something kind of unusual. They have an incredible selection. ($909)
>> Finding chairs was the hardest part of this room. It's tricky to duplicate a pattern, so I went with the same overall mood instead of splitting hairs over how floral it looked. It definitely still sends the right message. ($389)
>> The original room was massive with a lot of tables and storage furniture in it, so I chose to focus on finding a cute coffee table ($180) and a bar cart ($200). Those are items that can fit just about anywhere.
>> Over on the couch is an eclectic mix of throw pillows. Affordable ones are easy to find--Target has some snazzy ones right now--but all of these are from Etsy. You also have the option of making them yourself, but sometimes I just like to have them done. Blue ($48), multi-colored ($40), and yellow ($25).
>> The abstract painting is also something you can bust out yourself, if you feel so inclined. I actually thought it looked like a bridge, so I also found a 16x24 black and white photograph of the Williamsburg Bridge that works, too, if you're not feeling super artsy. ($50)
You can buy everything seen here for just a hair over $1,800. And if you decide to buy two of the chairs, it will put you just under $2,200.
So how do you feel about all of these colors and patterns together? It's not my normal cup of tea, but I'm really into it. The shapes of the furniture are things I like anyway, and I guess the color is like having ice cream with extra sprinkles. It's fun sometimes.
LOVE that couch!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the blue walls! And the purple couch is so fun! I don't care for a patterned rug and patterned furniture together, but I like the mix of colors :)
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I can't believe I like it either, but I do.
DeleteWow, you nailed the look! I think I'd have to have a rug with less pattern, but overall it's a pretty room.
ReplyDeleteThis room is so rich in color! This is right down my alley, but I think I'd need to swap out the rug. I love bold and rich colors and the patterns are great, but the rug makes my head hurt a little. Other than that, I could definitely go for something like this in my house!
ReplyDeleteI think I would actually really like this room if the walls were a different color. You know me, I looooove color, but something is off about that particular shade of aqua blue with all those deep purple and burgundy patterns. I wonder how it would look with a warmer color to offset all those cool tones? Anyway, great job at recreating the look for less, Paige! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love that everybody hates the rug in the original photo. That's my least favorite part, too, and I was afraid it was just me.
ReplyDeleteI really like the color in the room. I need to get my living room looking like that. I would probably make the dresser a dark purplish color only because it feels like it blends. But that is just me adding more color.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so random Wayfair question for you. Have you ever ordered anything from them, and if so, did it arrive in tact? I've ordered 4 things now, and they've all come broken/scratched/or something was wrong. They're customer service dept is awesome about refunding everything, but I seriously haven't had any luck and am wondering if I'm the only one?
ReplyDeleteLove the "collected over time" look! such a livable look! Also love the colors in this one!
ReplyDeleteMy man would love that couch!! Which reminds me that I need to introduce him to Polyovre. I'm still kind of figuring out how to make collections, but it's such a cool place to browse. It will be a lot of fun to look through the home decor and furniture items with him!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I would love this look, if I lived in a warmer climate - everything except the carpet. That's too overwhelming for me ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove all the color, great room! I have a purple couch(more plum them bright purple)in my living room, I love it so much. It's rich, warm, and very inviting. I really love the color combination in that room you choose, and I think adding a little blue to my living room might be a nice touch.
