We had one of those weekends that was so jam-packed that we feel more tired today than we did on Friday. But it was also one of those rare situations where we managed to have fun AND get a lot accomplished. Our weekends tend to skew one way or the other, so this made us feel nice and organized.
On the fun side, we met up with friends for drinks on Friday night, and I got to bust out my $6 thrifted sequin dress. Also thrifted in this outfit are the jacket (from Canada!) and boots (not from Canada). Sidenote: do you think this dress would be too short to wear without tights/leggings? I can't decide.
On Saturday we ran all of our errands and then met up with Hubsey's little brother for dinner. We also sat around wistfully thinking about the basement because...
We started the floor yesterday! There are still holes in the wall and we haven't painted any of the trim, but THE FLOOR. We bought the saw and Hubsey spent two hours assembling it while I put down the vapor barrier and underlayment:
And then, THEN, after almost two months of not having floor down there and dealing with piles of crap all over the house, we got all Action Jackson down there:
Wheeeeee! It's a SwiftLock floating laminate from Lowes, and it was $2 per square foot. My goal was to keep it under $2.50, so I was thrilled for that. Not because we wanted to get the cheapest thing we could find, but at the end of the day this is still a basement, and while we've fixed the water problem for now, there's always a chance more cracks could form down the road. I'd hate to spring for real hardwood and have it get ruined.
Anyway, I love it and the basement is officially going to surpass the dining room as my favorite. If I could give the floor a hug, I would. Not all of it is down yet, but we're hoping by the end of the week.
Also, I planted some flowers on the porch:
I hope I don't kill them too quickly.
So how was your weekend? Have you started planting yet? Working on anything around the house? Any thrift scores lately?
It's looking so good!! Can't wait to see it all when it's finishes (and I'm loving the bookshelves too!)
ReplyDeleteYour dress is super cute and I don't about you but when its a good sale I find the item even prettier lol. I like it with leggings and tights but I think if you decide to go bare it'll be ok as long as you don't go with a super high heel. Anyways your basement floor looks like its coming along great. My boyfriend did his basement flooring the same way and it looks so professional. DIY anything rocks especially when it comes out better than the "pros" lol. Have a great wk!
ReplyDeleteYou did get a lot done this weekend! And you could definitely wear that (killer) dress without tights (as long as it doesn't ride up too much when you sit down). The basement floor looks great!
ReplyDeleteThat is a crazy few days, flooor looks awesome! the seeds are all sprouting in the cold frame, but its still too cold here to put them in the ground. Looking forward to seeing how your plants do!
ReplyDeleteI love the sequin dress! I have long legs and tend to not be so ladylike so I personally wouldn't wear it without tights! Haha. I can't wait to see how your basement turns out. :)
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are super pretty! Congrats on getting the basement floor going, and I know what you mean about having a weekend that's more tiring than a week day. I am exhausted!
ReplyDeleteIt's starting to look good :)
ReplyDeleteThe floor looks GREAT, and I love those delicate purple flowers.
ReplyDeleteYour $6 sequin dress--what a FIND!!! My daughter can do that -- she enters a thrift store and she can smell a hot designer deal from 50 paces. She found an Anne Klein fully lined pencil skirt (tags still on) for under $10.
I love weekends that are a combination of fun and productive! Congrats on getting the floor project underway.
ReplyDeleteLoving the basement floor so far! Such a good deal for the laminate and it will be so rewarding once it is all done.
ReplyDeletelove the floor. looks similar to ours....which will be replacing shortly because our shower leaked right out of the bathroom and under our kitchen/living room floor which i waited a long time for. ruined. such a bummer. but LOVE your white cabinet with floor!! looks great
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great weekend. Anytime you can have fun and be productive is awesome. The new floors are lookin great!
