Handmade Holidays in da house! I'm excited because Kelly is here with a yummy gift idea that involves tacos. (Or as I call them, the nectar of the gods.) You can read more from Kelly over on her blog, and be sure you check out her gorgeous Etsy shop, too. But now it's taco time:

Happy Holidays, Little Nostalgia readers! I'm Kelly, the girl behind The Pretty Bee, where I share lots of recipes (including many that are gluten free and vegan) and some simple craft tutorials. I also have an Etsy shop where I sell jewelry, so this is a busy time of year for me! But as busy as it is, I still love to take the time to make holiday gifts. I think that food gifts are awesome, and a gift in a jar is pretty easy to put together, and it's nice for the recipient, because they can choose when to make and eat it.
Today I thought I'd share my recipe for Homemade Taco Seasoning in a Jar. I like to make my own taco seasoning because I don't love the additives that are in the taco spice packets at the store. Plus it's easy and inexpensive to do, and I think it tastes better.
Homemade Taco Seasoning
Ingredients:
5 tablespoons cumin
2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons onion powder
1.5 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon sea salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Method:
1. Combine all spices in a bowl and mix.
2. Spoon into a half pint glass jar.
Presentation:
I took a piece of scrapbook paper and cut out a circle and placed it on top of the round metal lid. I tied baker's twine around the jar, and attached a tag that says Taco Seasoning. I've made the tags available as a free printable right here. I also included some tags that just say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays on that printable as well, so you have a variety to choose from!
How to use the taco seasoning:
Just use it the same way that you would use store bought taco seasoning. If you are making ground beef, I would start out with 1.5-2 tablespoons of seasoning and a half cup of water per pound of beef. You could add a tablespoon or two of tomato paste as well. If you are making chicken breasts, you can just use the seasoning and some olive oil and cook them that way.
Enjoy!
