Team USA!

You know what starts today? THE OLYMPICS! I already have the NBC theme music stuck in my head (buuuum bum! buh-BUM bum bum bum) and I'm counting down the minutes until the broadcast starts tonight. I could probably watch everything online sooner, but I need to get some work done today. If I let myself watch it early, I'll get too distracted. That reminds me: I saw an interview with the actor who plays Carson on Downton Abbey recently, and he said they all love promoting the show in America because "nobody does enthusiasm like you." I had never really thought about it that way before, but judging from my propensity to get excited about EVERYTHING and rush over here to write about it... yes. We're a spirited bunch.

Anyway, a few of the events are starting before the opening ceremonies, which are tomorrow. Today there's apparently Team Ice Skating and I don't understand how that's going to work. Like gymnastics? Or do they get a partner they can tag in halfway through the routine? That would be awesome.

So, I'll be watching and rooting for Team USA. I'm not the type to get literal with stars and stripes on my clothes, but if I were to get a new Olympics outfit, it might be something like this:

jeans  //  cardigan  //  t-shirt  //  earrings  //  scarf  //  similar shoes

It's patriotic without screaming in your face, and all of these things would look great broken up into other ensambles. I'm all over that cardigan and I'm surprised how much I want those red loafers to magically show up in my closet tomorrow. I can't remember the last time I owned bright red shoes.

Are you going to be watching? What event are you most excited about? I'm all about the ice skating and because I was a kid when Cool Runnings came out, I like bobsledding. What's your favorite item in this outfit?

  1. I love bobsledding! Did you know you can ride the bobsled at Lake Placid with a professional driver and brakeman? That would be awesome!!

  3. Paige, the American enthusiasm is what I admire...I think I'm probably the most enthusiastic person in my area ;-) German folks are generally a bit reserved.
    Cute outfit!

  5. I'm super excited for the opening ceremonies. Vancouver was pretty sweet, I wonder if they'll top it. I'm looking forward to some downhill skiing and speed skating.

I'm digging those earrings you picked out :-)

  6. Honestly...I don't know if I'll end up actually watching any of it. Something about not having TV makes it a little tricky! I always read the news, though. I guess I'm mostly just interested in how all of it turns out and if they can avoid any incidents, etc. Oh, and to see if American can repeat last time's surprise performance and do well in hockey!

  7. My fave are the shoes, can't wait to be able to wear shoes that aren't boots and don't need fluffy socks. I used to do figure skating for many years, so that will definitely will be one of the sports I'll be watching. Other than that, there will be quite a bit of Dutch speed skaters competing, so that will be watched too!

  9. Here's to being spirited!!
    I LOVE the Olympics!
I was confused about the team event tonight and opening ceremonies tomorrow. Huh?
From what I understand, one team member skates a particular event. eg, One woman will skate the short program, another will skate the long program.
I like the WHOLE outfit! very cool ensemble, Paige!
I love all the Olympic events, probably figure skating the very most because I use to skate.

    1. Yeah, I guess because they added so many new events this year, they started some of them before the opening ceremonies.

  11. I love the winter Olympics best, too--maybe because I live near Lake Placid! I'll watch as much as I can of pretty much anything--still trying to figure out the rules of curling!
