Virtual Shopping Trip: IKEA

Is it bad that I've been to the blue and yellow palace three times in three weeks? My knee jerk reaction is to say, "Grab another bag!" but denial is always the first symptom. In my defense, I have tried to get house stuff elsewhere (Target, West Elm, Crate & Barrel) but aside from a handful of goodies, nothing has been right.

Except at IKEA.

So I wandered through again yesterday, this time with my camera so I could show you how some of their new items look in person. Check out these awesome plaid scarves!

Ha, they're just blankets. Could you imagine if IKEA started selling clothes!? My god, I would never need another store again. But in all seriousness, one of these would be a nice touch if you wanted to keep a room from looking too girly.

This coffee table set is new, and very beautiful. I thought about getting it a few weeks ago, but Hubsey pointed out that either of us would ever want to clean the glass. Good call.

The table also has a cousin, Mr. Fancy Shelf. It's just gorgeous in person.

Look at this beast! I was so dumbstruck in the store that I a) forgot to see what kind of shelving this is and b) didn't notice the ladder on the right. If you happen to have 15 foot ceilings, this could be your reality:

We need a little shade to put over our kitchen window, mainly because I stumble down there looking a hot mess in the morning and I don't want to scare any small children. This flower motif is adorable:

White cabinets are my all-time fave. They just make a space feel so much bigger.

There were a handful of new industrial-inspired lights including this one on an accordion arm, which would look mighty fine in my office:

Remember my desire to have some kind of schoolhouse lighting? Boom. Thanks, IKEA.

As for what I did buy, it was a lot of little things, like curtain rods, a dish rack, a vase... You'll see them soon, grasshopper. Have you been to IKEA lately? Are you digging their new designs? Trying to figure out how you can use them in your own house?

  1. I wish we had an IKEA close by! Love the glass end tables and shelves...but you're so right about cleaning them!

  2. Headed to the promised land on Tuesday with BFF. She's expanding her office and I need a much-loved glass bottom lamp (I can't remember it's Swedish name) and some more cabinet lighting for when our living room bookcases come in. Did you see the chair on the front cover of the catalog? That's what I'm talking about. They should sell those again.

    1. YES. I didn't bother looking at the words at first and tried for like, 10 minutes to find it online. Fail.

  3. I'm really happy we live so close to an Ikea. (Two of them, what a state) But then sometimes I think how horrible it is for my wallet. I got the catalog and dog eared it with all the things I plan on picking up after I move!!

  4. I made a trip to Ikea this week as well! I picked up a couple baskets for the nursery, some cute coffee tins and a couple of plushies for the baby =) I could go crazy in there if I didn't have any self-control!

  5. I haven't been to Ikea in a few years, it might be for the best. I can only dream of having super high ceilings to enjoy a bookcase like that. :)

  6. Ah man, I see all of these great posts about IKEA, and then I go to ours with high hopes and it's ALWAYS a massive crowd with dug through stuff with very little merch left. It feels like I'm in a good will warehouse sometimes. Sigh....I WISH IKEA worked in my life...

  8. We plan on renting a car and making the trek to one of the IKEAs around here after we move. You're right that there's just no substitute for style and affordability when it comes to so many things like housewares and textiles. I hate to say it, but all of the other furniture stores around here that compete in price with IKEA mostly just sell ugly stuff. Can't wait to see more pics of your house. :)

  9. As soon as I saw "virtual Ikea tour" I dropped everything and came here to see.
    Ikea!
I can't go there without finding a million things I actually really really need —no, really!
    It's a dangerous place.
I get a lot of mockery for this, but... Ikea gets me! >_< I even appreciate the little details, like the fact that their website posts measurements in both Metric and (psht) Standard...
If I didn't have to reserve space for adorable antiques, I would easily be swallowed whole by the blue & yellow Lord.

  10. I love IKEA but I'm not sure if I could keep my sanity (or savings account) if I went 3 weeks in a row!! The one near Seattle is always SO busy. They really do have such wonderful finds though. I really like that glass shelf. Thanks for the tour :).

  11. I would have much rather gone to Ikea with you than return to work on Thursday. That would have been way more fun.

  12. I love IKEA! IKEA furniture and accessories, have been a staple in my house for over 20 years. I remember going to the very first IKEA they ever built in the USA, and I have been hooked ever since. Great Finds.

  13. Ooooh IKEA! When I worked out in Schaumburg I would hit that up ALL THE TIME. I think it's a good thing I don't go out to the burbs that often anymore. How hilarious would that be if IKEA started selling clothes?! Would you have to assemble them yourself?

I do want to get curtains for my son's room because today when the sun wasn't out, he slept an hour later than normal. I think a trip to IKEA may be in order.

  14. Does anyone know if that TERTIAL Accordion Lamp is actually available in stores now, b/c I can't seem to find them online? I live in NYC. Thanks!
