The Reject Swap

A few weeks ago, my bloggy friend Kristen had a lightbulb moment: everybody who sells on Etsy always ends up with old/leftover/slightly flawed inventory, so instead of having it sit around and collect dust, we should put it to good use and have a "reject swap." Everybody gets to unload the stuff that hasn't sold while scoring some goodies in return. Holler! I have a drawer full of old inventory! Because I was probably a hoarder in my last life, I tend to hold onto to every prototype and old design I've ever made for either of my shops.

I took this a sign to do a purge, and signed up to trade with four people. It was so great to free up the extra space AND I got some fantastic items in return. In no particular order, here are the fabulous ladies who traded with me:

These pretty bags and jewels are from Ayla of Eyelah. All of them are super cute, but I freaked out extra hard over that gray and white necklace. I wore it to class on Thursday and it got a lot of compliments. The dark gray clutch is also right up my alley, and I want to thank you for feeding my addiction to my favorite non-color.

The next batch is from Mary of My Hideaway. I didn't even know she was thinking about printing pictures until I got my package, but I'm so glad she is. We have a collection of food art in our kitchen, and this will be perfect for it. Plus, hello cute butterfly brooch!

The swap was also great for discovering new shops. These prints are from Amanda of Dragonflight Dreams, and I don't know how I had never seen her work before! Her note to me said these prints were goofs, but I sure can't see any problems. How pretty is that yellow color? And I love anything with an owl on it.

And finally, the mastermind behind the swap was Kristen of Milo and Molly. She transitioned from paper crafts to mostly fabric, so she had a lot of older products to give away. She sent along a huge collection of bookmarks, holiday cards, magnets, and--I completely dorked out over this--baker's twine! Yes! Everything was so adorable and practical, because now I won't have to use one of my business cards to mark my place in a book. Look at how cute that purple chevon is!

Thanks so much to all of the ladies for sending over their rejects! I loved everything that came my way, and would jump at the chance to do another one of these in the future. If anybody else is interested in doing one soon, leave a note in the comments and I can get it going.

  2. I have a new computer and I'm having to re-login to everything! I am sorry if I've already commented on your post and this is spam, but I don't think it worked out the first two times...

Anyway, I would love to hear about upcoming reject swaps! As you say, everyone ends up with some random things that just don't get any love.

  7. I'm so glad you liked them! This was the most fun, and we should totally do it again. If you decide to get one going in the future, let me know. I had people contact me after I posted about it, and I can add some names to the list. :)

  19. Hi Paige,

Found you through Sonya Kanelstrand's blog. Wow, none of your goodies look like "rejects"...what fun! I donate some of my "odds & ends" to local charitable events & use them for participating in The World Needs More Love Letters letter writing projects. Sometimes I gather them into grab bags to sell at local shows. I'd also enjoy participating in a future swap & trading with fellow creative spirits! Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea!
