You might remember this post I did a couple of weeks ago about using my interior design degree to offer affordable design consultations. I was thinking that everyone wants their house to look good, so why isn't there more out there for the average person? Or any guidance if you don't want a total overhaul? You guys left a lot of awesome feedback in the comments, and I've decided that I'm gonna give it a shot. In fact, I'm working on a room redesign for my friend Meg right now, and I'll have that ready to share next week.
But in the meantime, I saw this bedroom on Pinterest and I drooled all over my keyboard.
So I found some pretties to make it happen:
-- The thing I notice right away in that room is the striped headboard. I found a headboard cover ($125) to slip right over your existing one if you have it and don't like to sew. But if you want to DIY, headboards are easy to make, and striped fabric can be found for about $9 a yard.
-- Large scale flower pillows are next. You can buy these covers pre-made for $60 each, or just get a yard of the fabric for $24.
-- Botanical prints are getting popular, which makes them easy to find. These are from Etsy and are $10 each. Industrial lamps have also made a comeback, and this one is $30 from my retail BFF IKEA. We have two in our bedroom and love them.
-- The white nightstand with lots of storage is from Target (another personal favorite) and will set you back $120. The nail head bench was $275 from Overstock.
-- In terms of neutral textiles, they're everywhere. This big 8'x10' rug is from Home Depot and was only $330, while the bedding is from IKEA for $40.
Depending on whether or not you want to get your DIY on, the price range for this room is between $900 and $1,100. I'm pumped. I love it. I want it in my house. Except that our room is small and all of this won't fit. (Details.) If anybody else is interested in a design consultation and room design like the one you see here, shoot me an email. I'm in the portfolio-building process right now, so anything I make for you will be on the house. Feel free to hit me up with any questions.
So what do you think of this bedroom? Nice and calm? I'm a huge fan of those stripes.
Love this look! My husband and I prefer a very masculine look in the bedroom with lots of black and deep red, and we had a lot of fun finding pieces that suited our style without the hefty price tag!
ReplyDeleteooo..I love it! I definitely need help with our bedroom. I'll send you an email.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! :-)
DeleteI looooove this bedroom although I'd like to see it with grey walls, I'm on a serious grey bedroom kick lately. :)
ReplyDeleteDitto. A warm gray and a beige aren't all that different, anyway!
DeleteThe colors are really nice - they're clean and fresh without being sterile and personality-less!
ReplyDeleteI love how spacious it is! The botanical prints are lovely as well as the floral cushions!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of bright bold colors and patterns but even I love this! Instantly drawn to that headboard and that comfy looking window seat.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely room! I wish I had that kind of space in my bedroom. You found some great options for doing that room at an affordable price tag.

The bedroom is a little white for my taste, but the aesthetic is very calming. It's wonderful to have so much space like that.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I love the headboard slip cover...didn't even know those existed!
ReplyDeleteHave fun building your portfolio :)

come say hello MOCCASIN RUN
stop by the shop MOCCASIN RUN
I do like a calming color palette in the bedroom. I don't sleep all that well, and I'm guessing if I painted the walls like fuchsia or acid green it probably would make it worse-lol. I like that grey bench and the pillows. :)
ReplyDeleteOhmygod, just imagining either of those in a bedroom made me cringe. Gaaah...
DeleteJust gorgeous! I really do think you have something here. Start a web- business???
ReplyDeleteooh I love that you found less expensive alternatives! And they look really similar too. I love the benches.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful idea. Our bedroom is almost entirely set up like this..Just missing the headboard and the bench so I might have to do a little adjusting :) I've been wanting to do a bench at the foot that is really a chest to store the extra sheets/blankets in. We live in a studio so the bedroom "fourth" wall is the living room so it would double as storage and a secondary sofa!
