Just ignore the holes in the wall and the still-wood trim. THE FLOOR! I just want to lay there and whisper to it. Tell it how beautiful it is. Maybe sing it a song.
Remember how the room looked right after we ripped up the carpet?
Bah! Look away!
Like everything else we do to the casa, this ended up taking longer than we expected. The goal was to have it done last weekend, but, ya know. Life. The main issue was that we never wanted to continue it after a full day of work because we were already tired. So all of it went in on weekends, and if you look at it that way it's not so bad.
It's SwiftLock 25 from Lowes in Fireside Oak. This is actually floating laminate instead of hardwood, which we did just in case more water ever sneaks down here. The planks had a tongue on one side and a groove on the other, so there were no nails or glue to worry about. They just slid together. Aside from the table saw and safety goggles, these were all the tools we needed:
EASY. Seriously, anybody can put down laminate if you have the time. As sore as it made us, we decided that we'd totally do this again. (I'm lookin' at you, shag carpet in the dining room...) Anyway, up next is painting the rest of the trim and patching those giant holes in the wall. And then we'll have to paint the walls. SIGH. #neverendingbasement
Have you ever laid any flooring, laminate or otherwise? Working on any home projects now that it's warmer for good? What'd you do over the weekend? If you saw Star Trek, how was it? (No spoilers!)
woohoo! i remember how happy i was when we finished our flooring. it looks super!
ReplyDeleteIt looks GREAT! My hubby did this in my old studio/stockroom. I like how it simply clicks into place.

ReplyDeleteLooks awesome. I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks gorgeous! I absolutely love the white TV station, too:) We redid our basement flooring with laminate a couple of years ago, and we love it! Great job:)

We replaced our carpeting in all rooms except the bedrooms and baths. Love it!! So easy to keep clean too -- the only problem is that I now SEE all the kitty hair that was formerly embedded in the carpet! LOL! Ours was done by the good people at Loews though!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't see Star Trek but definitely want to!!
It looks great! Huge difference! Woot! We don't have any house projects in the works but did spend a bunch of time on the garden yesterday.
ReplyDeleteSuperb! I can imagine you want to tell the floor how gorgeous it is and want to sing songs to it.
ReplyDeleteYay for new flooring! Hopefully you guys won't ever have any more issues with water again! I don't have any experience with laminate, but two weekends to install doesn't sound bad to me. Everything we ever do on the house takes twice as long as we think it will. I think the next project, I'm just going to anticipate that it will take 6 months, and then anything shorter than that will feel like victory.
ReplyDeleteThe new floor looks awesome! I scored an antique dresser (marked for $150, got for $40 on the last day!) at an estate sale last weekend that I plan on stripping and painting an antique white, which I'm super excited about! I love seeing your before and afters so I think I'm going to make a post about it once it's finished!
ReplyDeleteWOW! It looks amazing! Good for you for doing it yourself.
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYep, everything takes at least twice as long as you plan, but if you're doing it right (aka not half-assing everything) then it turns out better than you thought. Great job you two!!! I can't wait to see what's to come.
I commend those of you who do flooring----did it a few years ago and it's no picnic! Great job!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! Husband and I have been wanting to get hardwood floors for our first floor. We would totally do it ourselves. Thanks for the hints and suggestions:)
ReplyDeleteAnd Star Trek was AWESOME!!!!
Wow, just beautiful! The basement will look amazing when you put everything back together down there.
ReplyDeleteoh how I remember those tools! I've been there, done that! :)
ReplyDeletewow! your floor looks fabulous!
The floor looks terrific!!!!
ReplyDeletelooks great! I'd be singing to it, too!
ReplyDeleteI've laid (helped to lay) laminate flooring before on the first house my husband and I rehabbed to sell. It was in a kitchen. not terribly hard, but planning is a must!
I saw Star Trek on Saturday evening with husband and son. It was enjoyable, but could have been better in my opinion. But still, lots of fun.
Woohoo!! This looks AMAZING! I definitely can relate to the whole, "Oh, this project should be done next week" but it took until next month to actually get done thing. However, now that is is mostly finished it looks fabulous! Nice work guys!
ReplyDeleteWOW!! The room looks amazing. The floors look great!! This past weekend was pretty busy. We went to a concert on Friday, a graduation party on Saturday as well as Ryan's birthday party Saturday night. It was pretty busy. I haven't seen Star Trek yet but I will soon!
