Weekend Update: Rug Edition

I hope everybody had a nice holiday weekend! Ours ended up being relaxing as opposed to productive, which is okay because I think we're usually more tired than we realize. We got all of the new Arrested Development episodes finished (if you're stuck on the first few, keep going, it gets better). We also went on a quest for a basement rug, which turned into a complete debacle and we still don't have one.

This was our first round draft pick:

The Gradated Stripe Cotton Dhurrie from West Elm. It's on sale right now, $183 for an 8'x10', which is about as low as you can go. Obviously it would need a pad underneath so it doesn't turn into a slip n' slide, but those aren't expensive either. We checked the website first, but it's on backorder until the end of June (ugh), so we thought we'd just make a quick stop at the local store and cross this off our list.

Wrong! Our local store is apparently in the middle of moving locations, and they closed the original store before opening the new one. No soup for you!

Okay, that's annoying but it's fine. We have a back-up plan:

This is the Olin in gold from Crate & Barrel, on sale at $199 for an 8'x10'. C&B was also having a 15% off sale over the weekend, so it would've been even less. This color is apparently being discontinued and is now only available in stores. So we go to one and 8'x10' is a size they don't normally carry. (It's "too big.") Long story short, we were able to order one from the distribution center, but there are only four of them left. Ever. We find out today or tomorrow if we actually get one.

Keep all of your fingers and toes crossed for us. I really want it.

How was your weekend? Anybody else take advantage of sales and do some shopping? (I also got a new pair of sneakers, but that's not as exciting.) How was the weather by you? Is it weird to be back at work today? Hubsey was home for several days and it's strange to have the house so quiet.

  1. My weekend was great!!! I did nothing. I watched lots of movies and then yesterday I saw Star Trek and went over to my friends for some BBQ. It was such a nice weekend. I don't usually get 3-day weekends so I definitely took advantage of having no responsibilities and just lounged all weekend long. The weather was chilly near me too so I definitely didn't feel guilty staying inside.

  2. I did some shopping, but unfortunately, no sales here. I like the first rug, very chic, yet playful with the contrasting border.

  3. Good weekend! Sorry you didn't find a rug though. Have you ever checked out SmartBargains online? I'm not sure that they'd have the kind of rug you are looking for but they are fairly inexpensive and shipping is free. I've gotten sheets for my kids there, and my Dad has gotten rugs that he says he likes.

    Just a thought.

Good luck with the shopping, hope you find one soon :-)

  4. Good luck with the continued rug search! It's frustrating when little projects like that take a long time to come together. :( The long weekend schedule really threw me. I have no idea what day of the week it is!

  8. We didn't get much done this weekend either, but it was nice to relax and just hang out for a few days... I love that blue rug and would totally be willing to wait for it. Just sayin' :)
