Pinterest Picks

I don't normally stick to a theme when doing Pinterest Picks, but this week I was up to my eyeballs in house-related things and that apparently spilled over onto this. I was trying to think of the right word for  how I feel about the basement being 85% done, and I've decided it's exhilarating. SO many hours of work and we're finally in the home stretch. I can't stop grinning. The kitchen table and chairs are coming along nicely, too. I have a lot to share with you next week, but for now let's peek into other people's houses.

This might as well be a picture of the inside of my head:

Beautiful mix of new and old, and I really appreciate that they didn't paint the fireplace:

Before the basement had to be dealt with, our big project was going to be the main bathroom. I love dark grout with white subway tiles:

This project made me all warm and fuzzy inside. Emily Henderson redesigned an assisted living space for an older woman, who was SO thrilled with it, and there was so much thought put into her needs. The whole article made me sniffle.

Because of the monsoons here in Chicago, we haven't really been out in our yard. But once we get there, white Christmas lights are going up, just because I can:

So what are you doing this weekend? Anybody else have house-on-the-brain? It's time for me to go paint some more trim. Happy Friday!

  1. I like the mix of old and new too when it's done right. And the story of Fran's apartment is so sweet and I just love how it came out. :)

  2. A mix of old and new is kind of a necessity for us. I've inherited a couple of antique pieces of furniture that I couldn't get rid of even if I wanted to, and our tastes definitely veer toward more modern furniture. It is totally possible to blend everything together though, you just have to be more careful when choosing new pieces. There's a lot of stuff I love that doesn't always work, but it's easier than you might think to reach a happy medium.

  3. Congrats on being 85% done with the basement! I like the dark grout too. When we put out addition on...nothing will be white...I've learned from many white mistakes the first time we did our house!

  4. I love the flooring in the second picture! And also how cool about the assisted living space. I wish I could do that for my grandmother.

  6. Oooo, I love the bathroom! And the room below it is great, too. Yes, I am definitely thinking about houses right now. My man and I are moving after he gets home from deployment, and we're already thinking about how we'd like to decorate when we buy a place in a couple of years!
Good luck with the last bit of your basement!

  7. ha..house on the brain! Nope, not me but I have been thinking of doing some stuff to the balcony. We have a nice balcony and it doesn't get wet from rain at all but it's really dark So I've been thinking of getting some rope lighting to help with ambiance. Also, I may get some plants. I did buy a lavender plant a few weeks ago but Ryan killed it during a drunken stupor.

House is definitely on the brain...but not anytime soon, as of now just collecting on ideas!

  9. Why you would ever paint a fireplace I have no idea. So many fireplaces have beautiful natural materials. I love the pictures on the staircase in the first room. That whole setup is very cozy.

  10. I am thinking of redesigning my dining room /art/library space. It is currently a small space off the kitchen that has two large bookcases--we literally love books--and the small dining room table. the table usually has my serger on it and my computer and a bowl of fruit with some paperwork too! I usually do some watercolor painting there too! I am wanting to have another table in front of the south facing window for painting, and some more under table shelving for supplies. It will be a small area, but permanent, so I don't have to drag out the paints and then put them away again. I think there is room, I will just have to replace the serger somewhere else! And that is a dilemma with so little space in the apartment!

Loved the senior living teal apartment! Cool!
