Classic Summer Picks

There are always a lot of articles floating in the ether about trendy pieces and how you can wear them. I've covered a few myself. And those can be fun, but I think it's also smart to look into classic pieces that are cool every year. They can always mix-and-match with the trends, but they also work well on their own. Here are some of my faves:

>> Solid Maxi Dress - I'm going to be real with you about this one: I like maxi dresses because they're easy. It's one piece of clothing and you're done. (The same could be said about a regular dress, I suppose, but maxis get bonus points because you don't have to shave your legs. Keepin' it real.) Toss on a necklace and that's it. Insta-outfit. Solid colors are my favorite because they're the most versatile of all, but a good stripe is also hard to pass up.

>> Comfy Wedges - The ultimate day-to-evening shoe. You can get away with being a little more casual in the summer, so a wedge will work for just about any occasion. I have a pair of Clarks that I wear anytime I need to feel put together and its too hot for flats. Plus, I can go run errands in them afterward and my feet won't be crippled. It's a win-win.

>> Basic Tote Bag - These aren't just for the beach, either. I use one anytime we're going to be out all day, mainly because both of us turn into bears if our blood sugar gets low so we need to carry snacks. But water and sunscreen are also handy this time of year.

>> Lightweight Scarf - These do double-duty for me in the summer. I wear them around my neck the normal way, but they can also act as a shawl if a movie theater as the AC up too high (which is always).

>> Metallic Sandals - Some people get freaked out by these and I don't understand. They're like a neutral but better. Think of them as jewelry for your feet, since that's basically what they are. Just a little shine to make an outfit more interesting.

I think what we can take away from this is that I like things that make my life easier. Lazy? Maybe a little. Let's call it efficient. What are your favorite summer pieces? Do you find yourself drawn to the same few things every year? Which of these is your favorite?
