I don't think chevrons are going anywhere yet, but I have been noticing a new shape creeping onto the scene with a come-hither look in its eye:
trays // coasters // print // pillow |
Hexagons! Or a honeycomb pattern, whichever you want to call it. I am IN LOVE. Chevrons took a while to grow on me, but hexagons had me doing a little happy dance as soon as I saw them sprinkled around my Pinterest feed.
You know what does it for me? It's versatile! (Seriously, that will be engraved on my tombstone.) Scroll back up and look at the first cluster of photos again. You have some very retro trays, a minimalist coaster set, a kid-friendly print, and a classic throw pillow. They're all completely different styles, but the honeycomb pattern is the dominant feature on all of them. As fun as chevrons are, I don't think they translate as well into a wide range of spaces. Which isn't necessarily bad, but since anything flexible gets a big gold star from me, hexagons have the edge here.
side table // bedding |
Side note: can I get an amen for that table?
As for adding some hexagons to your room, if you just want to dip a toe in the water then start with something small--anything in the first group would be perfect. For those on the bolder side of the coin, going with larger items will make a statement--the side table or bedding would be more like a high-five as opposed to a polite golf clap.
Have you been noticing the hexagon trend, too? Are you a fan? What's your favorite thing here? Do you have a favorite pattern?
It is a fun pattern, but I still love chevron! That bedding is nice, I love the color combo:) ...and yes I like the pillow too!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, honeycombs win out with me! Love those coasters -- they would definitely be my toe-dipper!
ReplyDeleteSuper fun! We have some pillows in the living room with a hexagon pattern. most are gold and navy, with the select red ones, I'll have to instagram it, but my husband calls them our Zelda pillows.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the tables! (and recently saw a faux marble DIY I want to try!) And those coasters are Culinarium! They are local to me, from Newburyport, MA and something from their collection has been on my wish list for quite some time.
I particularly like the hexagons for pillow covers! I have a hexagon fabric in my shop and everytime I cut it I think of you :)
ReplyDeleteFunny! Yep I have been noticing them everywhere and I almost bought that bedding from Target last year. I ended up going with something else, but I still think it's cute. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan! More of the monochromatic items than the multi-colors. We had hexagon tile on the bathroom floor of our old 1940 house. It broke my heart to cover it, but it was in terrible shape. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI love hexagons! I enjoy seeing them on more things.
ReplyDeleteI love the hexagons and I have been thinking of doing some hexagon quilting because they look pretty. I'm definitely over the chevron style.
ReplyDeleteI did a hexagon treasury awhile ago! I noticed the shape was getting more popular but never really actively thought about it. I love the bedding set!
ReplyDeletehexagons are everywhere. I've even worked them into a couple of logos in the past year due to client requests. quite frankly, i think all things geometric are classic and here to stay! love your picks!
ReplyDeleteHexies are growing on me. I especially like the bright hexies wall hanging.
ReplyDeleteOh snap! I can get down with some hexagons. Especially for bed sheets. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm still on the chevron bandwagon :) But these hexagons are pretty great. I like them muted better like the coasters or end tables.
ReplyDeleteOkay I want that bedding! And I love that shape. I have always loved the old small hexagon type tiles in bathroom floors, fun to see it's making a comeback!
ReplyDeleteI'm not too into the chevron trend, but one of my cousins absolutely loves it! All of her wedding invitations featured it. :) I do really like geometric patterns, though! I prefer more muted tones, like if there's a mix between white and beige, or rosy hues. Stuff like that. I always love the clean, straight lines of squares and hexagons. And triangles. :)
